Fair enough. If they own a hall they should use it for any kind of activity (obviously not illegal) if that can make it possible to make more money (For Church related stuff).
This “line of thinking” makes me understand so much more the “Line of thinking " that the Church is NOT a building” but it is the people. It’s consecrated as God’s House for God’s purposes. Mass. Prayer. That’s about it. Not some secular music gig. (that includes classical).
There are two church definitions. Capital “C” Church means the people, as a whole. Lower case “c” church means the building. God’s house is church with a lower case. This “line of thinking” makes me understand so much more the “Line of thinking " that the Church is NOT a building” but it is the people.
If he loves it so much, why doesn’t he play Mozart?!?!?!Here’s the answers: Yes, the parish has a gym & there’s a theater in their local high school.
The reason the church is being used is due to the pipe organ…the music director is obsessed with it & so he came up with
these goofy concerts! It’s just for the music director to play since he’s in love with it & that’s it!
As compared to what? Ave Maria? No. But I do think the lyrics can speak to someone in a particular frame of mind. Personally, I’d like them to play “Into the Mystic” at my funeral, and “Bright Side of the Road” (two Van Morrison tunes) as they wheel the casket down the aisle on the way to internment. Both speak something to me even though they aren’t technically hymns. Probably won’t happen as long as the “Ostrich Catholics” keep running things.Do you really consider Bridge Over Trouble Water religious themed?
