I had no idea that the Catholic Church invests money in organisations. Would someone kindly explain how and why our church would do such a material thing? This has caused me some great concern.Does this not go against our faith? Is this what Jesus would do or want us to do? Thank you for your time

Its important to remember that the Church does not consider financial investing to be inherently morally wrong (see the parable of the talents, Matthew 25:14-30).

Dioceses have investments for the same reasons that most people or companies have investments:
  • to fund the pension programs for their employees
  • endowment accounts for various purposes (charitable, repairs, cemeteries, education scholarships, etc.)
  • it earns a better return than a regular savings account
There’s nothing morally wrong with investing money as long as the money isn’t invested to further immoral purposes.
