I’m surprised at you Amy for saying that. Considering what Muslim’s hate what Juan Williams said , who was on NPR. You should be the one that SHOULD distrust NPR.

Personally I am quite poor and have never been out of the US. In another city I knew some Lebanese. and they would go to the Orthodox Mission when a priest was there to serve the DL and they went to Holy Communion, other weeks they recieved at one of the Catholic churches, I know the Orthodox priest was aware of the situation, the Catholic priest and bishop I am not sure. But they assured me going back and forth like that is acc\epted in Lebanon.

Well, yes. Lebanon is a land of many sects and creeds, and perhaps that fact has contributed to a general openness not seen in other places. Also there is a sense of being Christians in a sea of Muslim nations and communities, so that individual doctrinal differences are less important than commonalities. The reality on the ground demands a certain degree of understanding and flexibility.

What I am referring to is that Lebanon used to be a Christian majority, and am aware of Maronites taking sides with the rival Muslim factions there. We have a Maronite parish in our diocese and many frequent there to meet the people and hear the priest preach and say Mass…they have a Eucharistic Liturgy of St. John the Evangelist.

What is sad is the violence and I remember when I was young watching the war in Beirut…met some very fine young men from Lebanon…

My point is,people have their reasons why they listen to certain media outlet.Whether it is extreme liberal or conservative. There really is no middle out there to speak of. Atleast what I see, no middle. NPR is, in my opinion , is extreme,over the top liberal,bordering on socialist.

Does the Catholic church have a presence in Moslem countries? I would think you could not find one in Saudi Arabia. What is the Vatican’s position on this? Also, if there are Catholic churches in any predominantly Moslem countries, are they able to obtain sacramental wine?

This has been answered before, but you’ll be able to find a parish or at least a church proper in any Muslim country BUT Saudi Arabia.

There are gaurded expat compounds in Saudi Arabia where Westerners aren’t subject to the ‘normal’ rules (e.g., mandatory abaya) and where Saudi citizens are forbidden to enter.

I know a Saudi who regularly requested wine from a friend who worked at a compound’s hospital, because as non-Muslims the expats are allowed to posess alcohol (within the confines, and as long as they don’t give it to Muslims).

So I’m all but certain that the Catholics there have a priest who celebrates Mass, even if there are no proper church buildings.

Glenn Greenwald is liberal. Keith Olberman is liberal. But NPR is, to me, middle of the road. Just the reporting without taking sides. Which is what’s so refreshing about it. I used to listen to conservative talk radio–man, those guys love to hate on people. They’re not happy unless they’ve got something to yell about.

NPR gives really diverse news and reporting, and really diverse perspectives on other things (book reviews, eg, personal stories), you should try listening.

Remember which network Juan Williams was on when he made those comments–and who was the approving host of that program. It wasn’t on NPR. And I’m pretty sure he was offered a contract by that network after NPR sacked him.

So he makes totally retarded comments about Muslims. NPR fires him, and Fox hires him. And you think I’d be hating on NPR?
