On the off chance that anyone here knows Sharm El Sheikh well, could you let me know of a good Catholic Church to attend? I’ll be visiting Egypt this summer and need a parish to go to. Thanks!
All very true. I’ve heard tell that there is a Coptic Orthodox Church there which, at least on special feasts, has an arrangement with some Latin-Rite priests and makes its facilities available to them for Mass. That actually makes sense considering that Sharm El-Sheikh is a tourist town and seems to be popular with Western European visitors.I could be wrong, but I don’t think there are any Catholic Churches in Sharm El Sheikh, Coptic or otherwise. It is not near Cairo and as I am sure you know it is at the southern tip of the Sinai Peninsula and is mostly a resort/tourist area. I visited Egypt on pilgrimage, we flew into Sharm El Sheikh from Luxor and from there took a bus up through the Sinai so we were only in Sharm for a short period of time. I searched for you on masstimes.org for Catholic churces in Sharm, it only came up with Churches in Luxor and Cairo as being closest. Have a great trip to a fascinating land!
I had already googled it, came up with the same church you did, but as you can see there is no pertinent information for said church, since it is just someones picture of ‘a’ church and possibly incorrectly labled.A quick google search seems to say otherwise though.

or perhaps the church no longer exists?
From what you say, it sounds as if it were an enriching experience. I’m glad you got to go, too.I spoke with my priest before I left, and he let me know that attending a Coptic Church would fulfill my Sunday obligation, so that’s what I ended up doing (of course, I didn’t receive communion). The service was really different, and beautiful, and I’m glad I got to go.
