Catholic church in Utah not doing well?

I understand the Catholic church in Utah is not doing well. In spite of a huge increase in population there because because of companies relocating. I remember an article on one of the just 2 or 3 monasteries in Utah about having their first vocation in like 20 years. What is the problem? Muslims are actually gaining converts in Utah. Pentecostals are growing too as a percentage of the population. Why is the Catholic church not keeping up in Utah?
 
I haven’t heard anything speciaifc about 1 state over another. usually just hear USA as a whole statistics. Do you know where you heard this info?

Well, your question was about monestaries not having many vocations. There is a difference between gaining catholic converts and people discerning vocations. Your average convert isn’t going to become a priest. Not to mention, vocations are down all over in general. That’s why we pray for vocations. You’d also have to understand that in the mormon faith, all men are considered priests, so there may be a disconnect on the part of mormon converts coming into the faith. They may not feel the need to join a seminary or monestary to have the same ‘position’ as priest because of their mormon beliefs.

So if you are going to compare, you have to compare catholic converts to mulsim/pentecostal converts. Not catholic monestary vocations to muslim/pentecostal converts.

I know of a particular diocese in Michigan that has had a huge upswing of men entering the seminary in the past few years. That doesn’t mean that that diocese has suddenly started converting new people to catholicism.

For all you know catholicism is growing at the same rate as the muslim/pentecostal faiths in Utah. You need to compare the correct statistics.
