This is not new Catholic teaching at all. The Catholic Church teaches that the Gospels are actual historical accounts, but not the first part of the Book of Genesis. Saint Augustine for example taught that the opening lines of Genesis are poetical statements. If this portion of Genesis was never intended by its human author as a historical account then we should not take it so either.
However, the Church has never taught the Bible is not true. A poetical statement can provide truth too. If Jonah were not actually swallowed by a huge fish (though it may be for all I know) the Book of Jonah has a worthwhile message, which indeed is infallibly taught by God.
 
Seems to me the religion of Global Warming exists without benefit of truth or debate.
Or honest prophets, either.
Does the Times question that faith?:🤷
