Hi all.
I’m not sure exactly where this post should be placed so please excuse me if I have asked it in the incorrect forum.
I was born and raised Catholic, having moved away from the faith in my 20’s and most of my 30’s, my husband and I are returning to the faith. I am ignorant on many matters, including this one. I am hoping someone can shed some light for me.
My question is this: Are all Catholic Churches affiliated with a particular order?
In college, I attended a Franciscan RC Church. I loved it. While I was in graduate school, I attended a Jesuit RC Church. My husband and I are now attending a church that doesn’t particularly advertise which order (if any) it is affiliated with. I’m just curious…are all churches affiliated with an order or are only some of them?
Regardless, we love the RC Church we are now attending. I was just curious. Any thoughts?
Much appreciated.

Not at all. A lot, if not most parishes are diocesan and the priests are under direct orders from their bishop, and not a religious superior. Look at the official title pastor of the parish: if he doesn’t have initials after his name, then he is, more often than not, a diocesan priest.

Thank you very much, Alex! Our priest has initials after his name. I’ll google those and see what comes up. Thanks again!
