"I am very pleased to publish, with the author’s permission, this brilliant speech on Catholic Church Reform delivered by Robert Blair Kaiser in Ireland on August 19, 2010.

It is jam-packed with relevant history and offers hope for the future. It presents substantial raw materials for the tough task of real church reform.

I invite you to let me know what you think of Kaiser’s ideas through use of this blog’s reform-network.net/ comment capability."Frank Douglas…

CATHOLIC CHURCH REFORM: NO MORE THRONES

Robert Blair Kaiser…reform-network.net/

As I love Jesus I cant help but get upset when folks attack his Church. Read and if you like let him hear from folks who love the Church.

I find it interesting that he dates the end of absolute monarchy to the “Copernican Revolution”. Isn’t it singular that absolute monarchies were at their strongest 200 years after Copernicus died? This fundamental lack of understanding about history has put a huge dent in my ability to read this seriously. He is not a Catholic, but a protestant, and that is that.

“I also love you for your revolutionary spirit.”

This rather caught my eye too… what a radical! 😦

There is a difference between a reform and a creation of a totally new institution.

TWO BIG WARNINGS:

First of all, there is nothing in the blog with that title; you have to go down to a section entitled “You Gotta Read This …”

Second, this is a very Anti-Catholic blog site. Read only if you have a strong stomach.

From the beginning of the speech:
I am talking about the modern papacy, Rome and the pope, who has so much in common with your historic British overlords.
 Not a good sign.
I am talking about the special and corrosive tyranny that popes have been exercising over Catholics everywhere, and, dating back to the middle of the 19th century, over Ireland’s Catholics (who were then too unformed and too uninformed to offer much resistance).
He’s talking present tense here, not about the historical “bad Popes”. Doesn’t look good.

At Vatican II, a 2000 to 200 majority of bishops, – ten to one – redefined the Church as “the people of God.” That hit at the heart of papal absolutism. In effect, the Council Fathers said to us: “The Pope is not the Church. Your bishop is not the Church. You are the Church. Believe in your Church. Believe in yourselves.”
Not even historically accurate.
Paul VI took the Curia’s advice — and lost his moral authority.
In a dozen trips during his (Pope John Paul II) papacy, he wasn’t promoting the face of an African Jesus so much as he was selling Africans a commodity, papal celebrity: the Pope as hero, the Pope as God.
That’s just rude.
Many bishops are dumber than seven horses.
That’s beyond rude. :mad::mad:

From there he goes on to suggest either leaving to join Protestantism or leaving to form his own version of Catholicism (schism).

What a bunch of junk.

very sad indeed. notice that he praised charismatics movement for they have become more protestants. that is what i been saying for quite a while, this group is dangerous to the Church. these are people who embraced disobedience to the Church.

no one seem to be listen.

i know exactly what is he talking about. the bishops are sleeping they have lost authority and walk around like nothing is happening. satan is stealing the sheep right under their noses and they do nothing. they have lost authority because they stop exercising it right after VII.

poor Catholics who follow such a revolt against Christ. they are crucifying Christ all over again.

the bishops trying to be too good have allowed evil to enter the Church. that is what when we try to be gooder than God. the sheep go in many different directions.

who they think they are? they seem to consider themselves more holy than other Catholics. besides if they build their own church, can they garantee that wont be any sinners? or they are going to abolish all sins, so they dont have deal with it?

Who is this guy - another anti-Catholic Catholic?

I just Google searched his name, Robert Blair Kaiser, and found that there is a news article published today on him, the title is:

Tell Bishops to ‘Get the hell out of our cathedrals’, Says Writer

Friday August 20 2010

Irish Catholics should establish a home-grown church by demanding that the bishops “get the hell out of your cathedrals”, a leading author said yesterday.

Former ‘Newsweek’ journalist Robert Blair Kaiser also said that a grandmother who is urging women to boycott Mass in protest at the way women are treated in the church has started a revolution.

While Kaiser’s address is drivel, there is an excellent, lengthy response in the comments section by a Michael McGreevy. 👍

That is what happens when heresies are allowed to take root. this thing of “our Church” instead of the Church of the Living God has done great harm. now with this so called our church, people really think that they have authority over it because it is their church.

i know that a parish that i go to, i kind got way from, it is the about the same. i hear these parishoners going around saying our church. i simply want to stay away from such heresy. my brothers, these heresies are everywhere. most people just choose to ignore while the evil continues to grow. it is in the catechises. watch for catechism teachers. pay attention to what they are saying to you. this evil is being done in the catechism.

In brasil for instance. this is a parishoner complaining against what is going on in CC in brasil. they have become in total disobedience to the Church. i am talking about bishops, cardinals, priests. the pope has lost the CC in brasil, they just remain silent about it. this faithfull Catholic said that he went for a hair cut. a protestant was the guy who cut his hair. after it was finished, the stylist asked if he was Catholic, then he proceeded to say that he new an Eucharist minister that participates in protestants bible study and vice verse. this Eucharist minister had told the protestant that it was just a matter of time that all the images and statues of the Church would be gone. but that they are doing slowly so the people wouldnt be so shocked. that they will raise a new generation of Catholics that will be in line wiht protestant beliefs. this is the job of the catechists in brasil. this faithfull was terrified. they pretend that they are listen to the Vatican but in reality they are not.

Another anti-authoritarian I’ll-obey-God-as-long-as-He-does-what-I-tell-'em kinda guy.

Thanks Corki. Yet the props go to Fr. Peter M. J. Stravinskas.

Too right. Do you think I should stop going there? How should we deal with Catholics who are on their way out of the Church and with people who are encouraging them to leave? And how should we deal with those Catholics who simply fall away from the active practice of the faith or who reject portions of it?

I like to think God could use me somehow to stop someone from jumping ship. Or bring someone back.
I also like to defend my Mother the Church.

What is really disturbing is that no bishop come out and say something about these groups… they dont stand up for the Faith any longer. a bishop is to come out and expose groups like that to the faithfull, so they are not left to these wolves.

EWTN would be a great venue.

Actually, Father Z’s blog was speaking about Archbishop Ouelette:

(From Fr. Z’s blog)
– Bishops “need spiritual discernment and not just political calculation of the risk of the possibility of the message being received,” said Cardinal Marc Ouellet, the newly-appointed prefect of the Vatican’s Congregation for Bishops, in an interview this week.

“We have to dare to speak to the deep heart, where the Spirit of the Lord is touching people beyond what we can calculate,” he told Canadian Catholic News’ Deborah Gyapong.

During Cardinal Ouellet’s eight years as the archbishop of Quebec City and primate of Canada, he has become known as one of the country’s greatest defenders of faith, life, and the family.

This past spring he drew sharp criticism, from within and outside the Church, after he reaffirmed the Church’s teaching on the sanctity of unborn life, even in cases of rape. He later unapologetically reiterated his views on abortion in a press conference arranged to address the controversy. . .
But in the recent interview, Ouellet said that in addition to fearlessly preaching the teachings of the Church, bishops must embrace them deeply. “Then you have the power of conviction,” he said.

http://www.pitts.emory.edu/woodcuts/1595Pont/00000018.jpg[Watch this.] “If you state it only formally and in the end you do not really want to see it applied because you don’t believe that it is possible that people accept it, you are in trouble for the transmission of the message,” he added.

The cardinal, further, said the Church needs what Gyapong called a “new intellectual dynamism” to “recapture the spirit of Christianity” and “create a new Christian culture.[Shades of the new dicastery *Pro Repropaganda.]

“We need intellectuals for that, theologians, philosophers, Christians who really believe in the Gospel and share the doctrine of the Church on moral questions,” he said. “We have suffered from this mentality of dissent” that is “still dominating the intelligentsia.” ******

“There is no real discipleship there, real discipleship,” he added. “The discipleship that is emerging is from those who believe and who really love the Church.”

Father Z also talks about the article mentioned by the OP. . .might enjoy checking it out.

This is all good. but the emphazy seems to be most on moral issues. first the emphazy should be on the Faith. without the faith, preach on moral is worthles. that is why the morals are irrelevant today. and it is all because the faith has been put in the closet.
teach the faith and morals will resurface. without faith it is impossible to please God.

many in teh Church today are concerned only with morals and social issues. where is the faith in all of this?

we must go back to the beginning when faith was the primary concern. after VII, the emphasize became freedom and social issues. look at the mess we are today.
but no one seems to be able to see. they just continue in their rumble, which no one hear because their faith has been destroyed.
