*"Malaysia’s high court began hearing legal arguments Monday over the use of “Allah” by Christians as a translation for God.

While the Catholic Church in Malaysia insists that the word “Allah” is not exclusive to Islam and has been used by Christians and Muslims in Arabic-speaking countries for centuries, Senior Federal Counsel Datuk Kamaluddin argued otherwise, saying that the word is exclusive to Islam and that its sanctity must be protected.*"

Yes and no. It would, from a human point of view, make the position incorrect. If Muslims REFUSE to say that they worship God, then they no longer profess it. It does not, however, negate the fact that there is only One God. In other words, they may still be trying to pray to the same God or else they are praying to something else.

What is actually more problematic is that this creates a situation where Muslims themselves are denying what they are saying. They say that they want to live in peace and that people of the Book, as they call them, are trying to worship their god. Then, they turn around and do this stuff. Well, which is it? Is Allah = God or not? According to Malaysia, Allah is not the same as God.

I thought there was a verse in the Koran that explicitly states that Jews and Christians worship the same God as Muslims. Shouldn’t that have more weight in the eyes of devout Muslims than the opinion of some Malaysian judge?

Also by suggesting that Nostra Aetate (the encyclical on which CCC 841 is based) is unreliable aren’t you doing the equivalent of sawing off the tree branch that you’re sitting on? That is, aren’t you in danger of making Catholicism’s authority disappear in a puff of smoke?

I agree with you…

I didn’t mean unreliable, I mean if Muslims won that case then the Catechism of the Catholic Church should be revised to reflect Muslims decision (unless Arabic Muslims clerics come up and decry that).

If the Malaysian muslim win the case, then they must invade all other country using the word “Allah” as God. And the first one will be Indonesia. That is going to be interesting. It will be nice diversion tactic to conquer rich oil field area such as Ambalat, away from Indonesia.

Hi fellow Indonesian…🙂
you must be joking of course…😃 ! I would say that this will be a potential clash between muslims in Indonesia and muslims in Malaysia . But…
could it happen that the Indonesian muslims suddenly feel the urge to impose such rule to to the christians?
