Hello all

I’m a Brit and am travelling to Orlando for a holiday mid-November. We’re staying at the Royal Pacific Resort at Universal and will have a car.

Could some kind Floridian please recommend a church for Mass whilst I’m there? My husband’s not a Catholic, but he’ll be happy to drive me where I need to go (and I’m also a happy walker). I’ve been to Mass in quite a few different countries but never in the USA, so I’m looking forward to it.

Many thanks!

I traveled to Mary Queen of the Universe Basilica when I was staying at Walt Disney and it was beautiful! Please take your time there and visit the museum they have there and the gift shop after Mass. It took about 10 minutes at the most to drive there.

Mary Queen of the Universe Shrine. It was built for guests visiting the resorts in the area. It’s quite nice.

I agree with going to Mary Queen of the Universe.

But something to note. When we went there, it was kind of difficult to find. If I remember right, we had to turn into a shopping mall then through to a side road, before pulling into the church parking lot.

I attend Mass there whenever I am in Orlando on a Sunday. I love this basilica. My only suggestion (in addition to yours) would be to sit up close to the altar; the sound is not great, and Father can tend to mumble. It is easier to hear and understand if you are close.

I’m really looking forward now to seeing this beautiful basilica. In the UK, we don’t have that many modern Catholic churches (and nothing at all on this scale, except maybe my local Cathedral in Liverpool) and I love the fact that they are designed to be filled with light.

Thanks again to all for the advice.

In addition to Mary Queen of the Univers (Q/U) mentioned above, there is also St. James Cathedral in Downtown Orlando, where the Bishop’s Seat for the Diocese of Orlando is located.

It’s nice and worth the visit, but if you must prioritize and/or select one over the other, Mary Q/U > St. James.

Mary Q/U is a national shrine, has a museum, and perhaps the best it has is a world class choir. Many of the members of the choir also sing/perform for various rolls with the Disney parks. Well worth the time.

But St. James Cathedral is there too.

fwiw.
