I was hoping folks could offer some guidance on Catholic churches in the Caribbean.

The wife and I have been to the Cayman Islands a couple of times and found a great Catholic church there (St. Ignatius in Georgetown).

Their Masses are in English (the Caymans are a former British colony), they have daily Mass, and they have adoration of the Blessed Sacrament every day after Mass until midnight. In addition, the priests are pretty solid (orthodox).

For our next trip we were thinking about going to one of the other islands in the Caribbean. However, having access to a good church is a key factor for us. But I am having difficulty finding information on the web re Catholic churches. Even masstimes.org hasn’t been very helpful (unless I’m missing the links/pages).

Does anyone have any recommendations? You get the gist of what’s important to us above, but we are looking for:
  1. Masses in English.
  2. A church with daily Mass.
  3. A church that is pretty orthodox.
Thanks in advance for any (name removed by moderator)ut.

There is currently no official Roman Catholic presence on either Little Cayman or Cayman Brac. A Eucharistic service is held each Sunday on Cayman Brac at 11:00am at the Little Chapel associated with St. Mary’s Rectory, a building owned by the Kirkconnell family, and which was home to Monsignor Meany during the final years of his life. There is a growing Catholic population on the Brac and land has been identified fro a future church at Cotton Tree Bay on the lower Bluff. Visitors may contact either Tania Drebenstedt (+1 345 948-2616) or Barbara Malone (+1 345 948-0551) for further information.

EDIT-
Sorry I thought you were looking for a church on the other Cayman Islands. Well , it was fun looking that up anyway. Love the singing on the St Ignatius website.

Have you tried the name of the island you want to visit plus Roman Catholic Church to start your search?

Yes, thanks. I’ve tried a couple of different combinations (e.g., “Catholic Church” “aruba”, etc.) and “googled” them with not much success.

I’ve also looked around on fodors.com forum, mastimes.org, etc., but, again, without much success.

If you hover over member territories you get some links to the right. There you can find names of Parishes.

Hopefully someone with some experience can come along and post.

When I visited St. Croix, I found a very orthodox church in Christiansted that I remember being a very easy walk to get to, but unfortunately I cannot remember the name, but I am don’t remember there being many options in that city. Hope that is of some help

For what it’s worth, the priest who married dh & I (some 32 yrs ago) was recently named Bishop of the US Virgin Islands. He is a very faithful and orthodox priest, so I would hope that parishes in his diocese are the same.

Peace,
Linda
