Catholic Churches in Yerevan?

I shall be visiting Armenia in early September and shall be in Yerevan on two Sundays. I would appreciate details of any Catholic churches there, either Armenian Catholic or Western Rite.

Am I correct in thinking that the Armenian Catholic church is in full communion with Rome, so that I could receive Communion there?

Rev. Father Petros Yesayan is the pastor of the St Gregory of Narek Armenian Catholic Church in Yerevan. He can be contacted at Facebook. Enjoy your visit. And, yes, you may attend the Soorp Badarak and commune in an Armenian Catholic Church.

Although it is from the Armenian Apostolic Church, there is an excellent introduction online (in English) to the Soorp Badarak - here.

I’m not sure if the Church of Armenia is in communion w. Rome or not. It is in many ways similar in formality & reverence, but different in many others. It’s an experience to be sure. Are you Armenian? Armenian descent? I am, on my mother’s side! Raised on basturma, madzoon, dolmah, kufteh, the good stuff. I can tell ya who Miriam Matossian is & I can tell ya where she goes to church, lol! I can find out though. I’m sure there’s some catholic churches. Google will know where they are, LOL!

If you are willing to ride 2 hours to Gyumri, there is an Armenian Catholic Church there. About 120 km from Yerevan. The Ordinariat for Armenian Catholics in Eastern Europe is based there, and there is a small seminary (since 1994).

As at least a couple of people have already posted, there is an Armenian Church in communion with Rome. There are two Oriental Christian Churches: the Armenian Catholic Church is in communion with Rome; the Armenian Apostolic Church is not, however it enjoys a most cordial relationship with the Catholic Church.

Why should she travel 2 - more like 3 - hours to Gyumri, when she can attend an Armenian Catholic Church in Yerevan, which is where she’ll be (and regarding which she can very possibly get information on the hours of divine services directly from its pastor)?

Besides which, it isn’t at all clear (from the article to which you linked) that there is a functioning parish in Gyumri. At least one temple there (Holy Cross) was converted to housing by squatters during the Communist era. Previous to that, it had been severely damaged in the mid-20s. Attempts to relocate the squatters proved more costly than building from scratch. However, construction of the replacement temple is not expected to be complete until 2013.
