One of my dear friends from college is getting married this May. She and her fiance are both Catholic, albeit, not actively practicing thier faith.

I am supposed to be a bridesmatron, my daughter her flower girl. Well she just informed me that they just leased their first apartment together. They are moving in together before the wedding, she is also contracepting. I have tried on numerous ocassions to talk to her about it but she remains silent and won’t say anything.

What is my moral cooperation with all of this? Can I attend the wedding? I know that I have a responsibility as a friend and sister in Christ to address this serious state of sin with her, but what does one say to an “inactive catholic”?

Any advice, suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have decided to really look over the cathechism and some theology of the body before talking with her…

I think it’s one thing to attend a wedding like this, and another to stand up as the matron of honor in someone’s wedding, that is living a lifestyle counter to the faith.

If they are Catholic, albeit not practicing, are they going through pre cana? Has the priest addressed how they are living? Have they been frank with their priest? I remember a good friend of mine marrying a few years ago, and she and her bf lived together, but she didn’t receive communion. But, the priest married them in the Church. I believe he knew their living arrangements.

I was surprised, because his advice was for her to not receive communion if they were sleeping together, and they were. And contracepting. I’m confused as to why the Church, knowing this, would even perform the marriage, but not my call.

I don’t think I’d be the matron of honor if I didn’t believe that my friend was truly holding up the values of the very Church that she is being married in. Just my two cents. It’s a hard spot for you, I know!!!:o
