*Catholic college sites link to Planned Parenthood

*Mar. 17 (CWNews.com) - Many American Catholic colleges refer students to Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers through their web sites, a lay Catholic group has discovered.

The Cardinal Newman Society, a Virginia-based group devoted to promoting Catholic identity at Catholic colleges and universities, found links to Planned Parenthood, referrals to abortion clinics, and internship offers with pro-abortion activist groups on the web sites of Catholic schools including Boston College, DePaul, Georgetown, Loyola of Chicago, and Seton Hall.

The Cardinal Newman Society (CNS), which has called attention to ties between Catholic colleges and abortion providers in the past, urged the president of the schools involved to remove the links and referrals from their web site. Patrick J. Reilly, the president of CNS, observed: “Faithful Catholics expect Catholic colleges and universities to embrace a culture of life and avoid scandal.”

Among the links CNS discovered on the sites of Catholic colleges and universities were these:

At the risk of taking an unwelcome position, I need to make a distinction between posting links to abortion-advocacy groups by a Catholic college health service or feminist organization – presumably to make it easier to procure an abortion – and posting links on the Web page of an academic program – presumably for the sake of academic research or personal knowledge. The Cardinal Newman Society lumps the two together when they are not the same.

A program in women’s studies or American studies would be remiss if it did not touch upon the abortion debate and provide access to relevant primary sources of information like a Planned Parenthood or NOW Web site. And even the health service would argue that it is providing information rather than advocating abortion, although I find such a position tenuous.

Of course, it might be reasonable to urge these college programs to provide equivalent access to the Web sites of pro-life organizations in the interest of furnishing more complete information. Students end up writing better papers that way, regardless of the choices they make concerning abortion in their own lives.

The error is in considering abortion as a health service.

I urge all prospective students to boycott these particular universities - shame on them for scandalizing the Church. The culture of death rears it’s ugly head again.

Write or email their alumni groups. Hit them where it hurts - in the wallet.

The Church should file a lawsuit so that any college that promotes abortion should **not be allowed ** to use the word “Catholic” in their title, and, all references to “Catholic” in their brochures and description must be left out.

Truthfulness in advertising is essential.

These places are too influenced by the secular world. They are just trying to keep up with the Univerisities and they are wrong in linking their students. It makes them a party to something they should not be endorsing.
