Even though it’s in Ontario, Canada, I think you should really consider Our Lady Seat of Wisdom Academy. I am a part-timer student there along with highschool (I’m homeschooled), and both my older siblings have gone there. It is completely authentically Catholic, and the professors even take the oath fidelity to the magisterium of the Church. Even though it’s not accredited yet, there are a lot of other Catholic and Christian colleges that accept its credits, where you can go for a fourth year.

As to cost, I’m hoping for a lot of scholarships.👍 I’ve been able to do well in school, and I’m thankful for it, so much so that I’ve been offered one full ride already. Thanks for all of these suggestions!

Belmont Abbey College is worth considering. While I have not visited the campus, I have interacted with some of the faculty and it seems to be a very strong little college. And, it advertises in First Things, a traditional Catholic publication.

Briar Cliff University is my alma mater & it is a small college in Sioux City,IA. There are still religious sisters that are dressed as such. The diocesean bishop is on the board of directors and is active in being a part of the school. A religious sister is the college president. A good portion of the faculty are practicing catholics that attend mass on campus. Franciscan values though, so be prepared to act your faith frequently.

I attend Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota, and I feel like I’m in the minority as a strong Catholic. The campus offers a lot of service opportunities for students, but very little in regards to strengthening your faith. A few friends and I are trying to change that, but until then, if you’re looking for a strong Catholic university, I’d recommend Franciscan or Benedictine. Those sound much more firm in their Catholic identity than this place.
Hi,

Do you think Minnesota is like this as well?
I have heard that Minnesota has strong Catholic roots, is that not the case anymore?

Have you been to Saint Agnes Catholic Church in the Saint Paul area? Its supposed to have a Latin Mass, etc.

Thanks for any tips you can give me regarding Minnesota & the faith!👍

Good luck with your studies!
God Bless,
Pax,

Hmmm…I think Minnesota much more steeped in the Lutheran faith. Not to say there aren’t a lot of Catholics, but there are many more Lutherans.

You may have to look a little harder to find an (orthodox) Catholic College where you can major in biology - there’s one in Louisiana and some specifically go for medicine but it seems to me like for the most part you get a “liberal arts degree” - which is great if you want to go into law or need to go for a master’s after that but I do know of a number of friends who either (a) began going to a Catholic College and then changed because of the lack of majors and wondering how they could ever get a decent job with only a 'liberal arts degree or (b) one stayed and was really into her faith - but that kind of petered out - she stayed and finished then went on to get her law degree. I don’t think it’s odd finding someone like your friend who went and who were no longer ‘into religion’ - I’ve seen it happen - on the other hand I’ve also seen one person go completely into her faith for a couple of years. I’ve read too much and known too many who went to colleges and heard about them not necessarily having a “Catholic” staff and being quite secular to tell you that any Cath.College you go to will improve your faith. You’re going to have to look long and hard if your faith is a big part of the reasoning wanting to go to a Cath.College.
I know some on here will point them out - I think EWTN has some notes on which colleges are more orthodox than others-
Good Luck and I hope it works out for you!
