My niece is looking for a Catholic College that offers educational art as an academic major. Art majors are often liberal, but my niece has a calling to teach art. However, she wants to keep true to her faith. We are looking for a Catholic College that offers this major. Can anyone refer me to a good Catholic College? She would like to attend a** true **Catholic College, not one that is Catholic in name only. :angel1:

St Benedict/St John’s University’s is Catholic in name only. I have a friend who goes there and she has told me what a disappointing experience it has been for her.

Benedictine College has an art program and it is actually is a Catholic school. benedictine.edu/students.asp?pgID=569 This would be your best bet! 🙂 I think you should really look into this one. If she wants both art and faith then this is where she should look.

I do not know anything about Viterbo University, and since I have not heard of it I would question it. I would really suggest doing some intense searches to see if you can find anything questionable before taking interest in it.

There is really only a handful of schools in the States that are truly known for their truly Catholic identity. Benedictine is one of about seven or eight.

If she does not like Benedictine then I would suggest she just go to a public university with a great art program and a really awesome Catholic center. She would get what she wants doing that more so then going to a Catholic University that is Catholic in name only and with an all right and passable art program.

Attending a school that you believe to be Catholic and that is really not can be a really heartbreaking and stressful experience.

I’ll remember her in prayer! God bless you both!

In Jesus and Mary,
Marie

Shameless plug

Try Iowa State University in Ames. We have a very competitive College of Design and a wonderful, vibrant, active Catholic Student Center.

the design college is competitive but not rated. The Engineering school is ranked…but interestingly enough the University of Iowa College of engineering is ranked higher than ISU’s. But then again ISU is a land grant college and wouldn’t exist if not for the government welfare handout in the morrell act. ISU is a nice university but it is not the state’s premier univeristy…unless one is into corn hybrids and animal science. With that in mind at least ames doesn’t have one of the nations leading abortion mills like Uiowa does. And the nightlife in AMes allows for a much more docile life…which is a much better enviornment for faith.

Oh by the way…I am a UNI person not an Uiowa person

I got my degree in Art Education at St. John’s University in New York. It is a Vincentian University with a strong campus ministry program that focuses on service to the poor. I don’t know if they still have the Art Ed degree since I graduated from there 32 years ago. The one great thing about going to St John’s was that I did some student teaching at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and at local Catholic schools.
