Catholic Colleges? Only Catholic in Name?

I listen to CA radio everyday while I work and I have often heard guests and people calling CA radio talk about how there are many Catholic Colleges that are Catholic in name.

But no one on radio actually will state which schools are only Catholic in name.
I became very interested in which colleges could be termed Catholic in name. Please list them.
 
How many of the “Catholic” colleges take the oath of fidelity to the Magisterium… most refuse.

So that would leave Aquinas, Christendom, Francisan Univ, and perhaps 2 or 3 others.

How is Aquinas Collage? Has it only a good name without a good substance?
 
I’m at Notre Dame. Here, it’s as Catholic as you want it to be. If you’re seeking orthodoxy, you’ll find it alive and well in many pockets. If you’re seeking heterodoxy, that’s thriving here as well. IMHO, the administration tolerates too much “dissent” (in the form of bad logic). See, for example, the Vagina Monologues, Fr. McBrien, the lack of mandatums, etc., etc.

Boston College is another typically cited “liberal” Catholic school.

My fiancee was going to a catholic college that is anything but.

Ave Maria I heard was a good one…a bit too far on the other side IMO but I have homeschooling friends who attend and they are pleased.

Let’s hear it for my BAC…I have to say this is a pretty Catholic place, there are a few teachers that are less than orthodox but all in all it’s great…and our athletics logo (below) is wicked cool…

🙂 My daughter hopes her children will attend there - 10 years from now for the eldest. 🙂

My eldest and I are starting to look at colleges…he still has two years but IMHO it is never too early…
Can I ask you does BAC have a Rugby Team or Club? And what foregin languages do they offer.
 
I went to Belmont Abbey, unfortunately, for just one semester. I just wasn’t ready and dropped out and joined the Air Force. After I got out of the Air Force, I went to a State University. Wow, what a disappointment.

Belmont Abbey has an absolutely beautiful campus. It had only 750 students back then. 26 years later, I still remember the fall foilage on the quiet grounds and the brothers walking around in their robes. I honestly really miss it. My philosophy instructor would walk around in his sandals not matter how bad the weather was.

If I win the lottery I’m going to quit my job and take classes until they throw me out.
 
St. Joseph’s College in cental Indiana was where I went to school. It is run by the Precious Blood Fathers(C.P.P.S.) out of Ohio and has always been in my experience and opinion a solid College for Catholics to attend.
 
As far as I know, we don’t have a rugby team or club. It would be unlikely to get a team going, as they’ve just started a Lacrosse team that seems to have consumed a great deal of money. A club would be rather easy to get started; there’s usually a great deal of cooperation on the part of the faculty regarding such things. We have a really intellectually diverse faculty here, so there are a lot of opportunities to get things started.

The college at present has 1100 students, the class of 2010 has around 350. Very nice place, and the monks are great. There’s a link to the college page in my signature bar should you want to check it out.

Sounds great…small classes etc.
In regards to the rugby…that is a BIG draw for my son…he loves the game and wants a school that has a club or team already.
I did check out the link but I could not find anything regarding the foreign language classes offered…he is hoping to dual major in history and german.
