We know there are many Catholics in politics. We also know a lot of the views.I am going to say this as discreetly as I can.I think it shows that there many Catholics which are not much different that anybody else.Should a Catholic be able to be recognized by his(her)behaviors?

a politician who identifies himself as Catholic especially in campaigning in order to garner votes from Catholics should certainly conduct his public office in line with his Catholic values. If he intends to ignore those values he has no right to publicly identify as Catholic for the purpose of getting elected.

Those who campaign for Congress should be open and honest about their faith, their views and what they stand for. In my opinion they should not use their faith or anything else to “garner votes” (though I know this goes on all the time).

If a person is elected, then those he represents have the right to expect that he will act in accordance with the views, beliefs etc. that were stated during the campaign.
However - it is unfair to try to force a candidate to hold to a particular view past a certain point. For while we have the right to expect those running for office and those elected to be honest, they have the right to expect us to trust them.

To answer your question “Should a Catholic be able to be recognized by his(her)behaviors?”, I would say yes. A Catholic politician should be true to the teachings of the Church and act in Love and honesty.

Peace
James

God speaks softly to our hearts and our conscience.

We, in turn, should do our best to listen to God by paying attention to and remembering what we have been taught about God by our parents and Church leaders.

If we do not make a continuing effort to attend Mass and the Sacraments regularly, we slowly tune out God. Then decisions are taken based on what seems is expedient at the moment.

There are certain things an honest Catholic cannot vote for - the 5 non-negotiables. After that, there is range of choices that can be made as long as one makes a sincere effort to vote consistent with his moral values.

In the end we all answer for the decisions we take.
