When we were in Lafayette, LA. the congregrations were definitly COC…you just have to realize that if your in-laws are “faithful” COCs then you may, not necessarily, be in for the ride of your life. There are some “liberal” COC’s. The way to tell is if there is a “Praise Team” 4 people combined with 2 men and 2 women for 4 part harmony. That’s considered liberal… You may be lucky. Louisiana is a different world. But you may also be lucky. We have lots of COC family and friends. I can count 4 preachers that i can think of right off the top of my head. We have about 43 nieces and nephews that I know of. Some great…
Good luck, but dont’ get fulled by their idea of where authority lies. The authority is in the Church… Read your bible, you’ll find the Catholic Church. If you’re serious about your Catholic faith this will be made clear with time if you don’t already know your scriptures. Most Catholics don’t…it’s embarrassing.

That’s why so many Bible Christians treat us like we don’t ever know what we’re talking about. Be stron and know you know far more than you realize even if you don’t know BCV [book, chapter verse].
5 Steps of salvation:
5 Acts of worship.
You’ll learn this. They believe in one man one woman for life. That’s solid teaching. They have the “Lord’s Supper” required every Sunday, no exception. They “work out their faith with fear and trembling”, faith without works is dead [not grace only or faith only], you can lose your soul even after you are “saved”, believers baptism required through complete submersion, bible only and authority, multiple elders [aka bishop, overseer] per congregation, deacons and minister [preacher hired or fired depending if they approve of his teaching and preaching], congregational singing [beautiful singing 4 part harmony no instruments allowed], some will even drink in their own family settings, but rare to hear about it. Women are seriously marginalized, you should be very careful with this point… My wife’s the victim of this. Some are so judgemental towards non-Christians…They do not believe that Catholics, Baptists, Methodists, Presbyterians, Episcopals, Orhtodox, Mormons, Jehovah’s Witness, etc. are NOT Christians nor saved. The same applies to non-denominational churches. They are “truly” non-denominationl. If you haven’t been associated with a COC for long you’re in for a long ride if you get attached to it. Moving is a nightmare, because most tend to be mainstream so no big and very controlling. Good luck with that as Dr. Phil says.
Please use caution allowing your children to marry into this group. They are very sincere…sincere at believing you and your children are comdemned to hell if they fall in the main category I speak about. The main reasons I didn’t believe it, though I wondered if it were true, is because I was really Catholic but didn’t know it. I started rejecting that believe fairly later on in the game. 3 years I believe. It’s not a very happy place to be. Can never really get close to people it seemed. Family reunions are plagued with trying to figure out how to pull that in-law or fallen away brother or sister that either no longer goes to church or especially to another so called “christian” church.
Truth hurts. I discovered this the hard way and really don’t mean to be uncharitable towards them…but read the posts and check the profiles of those that defend it…they say they are “Christians Only” or Just “Chrisitians”…They believe that they are the “true Church of Christ”… Got to believe me I know this very well.
Please be careful if you want to be happy. Divorce though is rejected and a straight path to hell. Not an options unless you remain divorce without dating and definitly no remarriage, which is still what I basically believe. Annulments should be very rare, but unfortunately they’re not.
