The long distance relationship talk is a reminder of our courtship. It’s a good thing we had good cell phone plans, and I had cheap long distance cards! We talked sooooo many hours on the phone. I would keep him company at work online too. He worked as a late night librarian in grad school, so I would chat online with him until he got off at 2 am, then he would call me on his way home and we would talk for a while before praying together over the phone.

We never thought of the movie date idea! We got a little silly making fun of our situation, though. The day we married was something like the 19th time we had met in person… but when we spent time together, it was at least a long weekend because of the distance!

Thanks 1ke and CaptainCatholic! We have prayed novenas on the phone. Right before we met in person for the first time, we prayed a novena to St. Raphael the Archangel (Ave Maria Singles has it posted on their site) that everything would work out as God wanted.

We also do the instant messenger/chatroom when we’re both studying late or when I’m at work. 👍

Cellphones are such a blessing for long distance relationships too! 🙂 We’ve simplified things a lot by having the same cellphone plan too. 😃

The only thing we haven’t done is read many books together and during our Christmas breaks (he’s in law school and I’m in college), I’d like to try doing more of that. We have discussed Josh Harris’ book “I Kissed Dating Goodbye” and really liked it, but we definitely need to read more books together!

One other thing we’ve done is “shop” together by visiting websites (sending each other links on instant messenger) and having fun “window shopping” for our anniversaries, birthdays, Christmas, etc. It can be a lot of fun–and you get to discover how similar your tastes are! 😉

God bless,
