This thread reminds me of an old, true story.

Way back when I was in college my roomate (Catholic too) asked me if it would be ok for him to go in the church in shorts all alone during the week to visit the Blessed Sacrament.

I told him I do not see why not, God knows what your hairy legs look like. And that is true, God is with us all of the time, not just in church, God is even with you when you are in the shower nude. Like Adam and Eve you cannot hide from God.
This again is a matter of time, place and attitude.

It is one thing if you are presenting yourself to God with reverance and respect and just happen to be wearing shorts.

It is quite another if you are wanting to push the envelope and shock those who are more conservative in the congregation.

There was nobody present but Mike at the time, he wasn’t trying to offend anyone.

He was a vvery pious Catholic, at Sunday Mass in the presence of others he was always dressed well, collared shirt and tie, and never jeans.

That makes absolute sense to me.
God knows what our hearts are. Etiquette is a guide to gentle behavior. Having a guide helps us when we are at a complete loss as to what to do in difficult situations.

I think Through Him wanted to talk about people going to the funeral Mass and staying for the meal rather than what people wear to church.

Some at his church feel that it is wrong to stay for the meal, but he sees nothing wrong with it.
This is true but I am a woman. Sorry I have been busy so just read the replies. I do wear nice clothes and we have a standard dress for the funeral choir. Wow I am so tired have been running for a couple days can hardly read this.
I see the book on etiquette and will look into it if possible for sale.
I am not against going to a funeral even if I don’t know the person and I don’t go to eat. But some do and like to just go to chat etc.
Personally I am rethinking of going when I don’t know the person because of what this lady said. She is sort of an excluding type person. Yet I don’t feel obligated to go.
I believe that if a person is gone and we knew he/she was a living the faith then we should be rejoicing. I would like to have a lot of people at my funeral. And I would hope that family would provide plenty of food.
What people wear is another issue which I am disappointed in the jeans etc.
These days I am trying to look like a woman all the time especially at Church. I am glad others do too.
