I know this is waaaaaaaaayyyy late, however, I would suggest you look up the Catholic Evidence Guild and see what they did. They were apparently quite efficent street preachers back in the day and did a wonderful job converting people. I think, they also still have a “guide book” that you can refer to.

Posting this just in case anyone seems to find their way back to this thread.
I just asked about them in another thread. I have to read up more on them.

Frank Sheed and Masie Ward were some of their most productive members. I would suggest looking them up as well. Frank Sheed is a particularly eloquent writer.

Also, these links might help you.

Hope this helps you in your reading.
Thank you!

So they’re affiliated with the Franciscan Friars of the renewal?

The Catholic Underground site is umm…scary looking.

I don’t think, Frank Sheed was capable of constructing uneloquent sentences. Profound writing, thoughts flowed through the paragraphs, and you know you’re learning. It felt almost like having a conversation, at least, that’s how he made me feel. “Theology for Beginners” has the best explanation of the Trinity, I have ever read.

They originally started in England and I don’t think they had any affiliation. They were just a straight lay organization. Years later, I think the Franciscans in New York wanted to revive street preaching and took up the name and the cause. This is my understanding at least. I could be worng.

I know right? I cant wait to read Theology and Sanity. It is queued up on my nook waiting for me until I finish my other books.

You could always stop people on the street and ask if they’ve accepted Mary as their personal mother… 😉

God Bless,

Uh, yeah… As a former Baptist, I can tell you that all you’d be doing is adding fuel to the “they worship Mary” fire.

Sometimes while watching EWTN as a Baptist would turn me off, because there was so much focus on the same old things: the Eucharist, the Sacraments, Purgatory, MARY MARY MARY MARY MARY MARY… Try and focus on what we share in common rather than on what we don’t. Also, I find good conduct is the BEST form of evangelization. 👍

But what we have in common is not what is keeping us apart. It is the misunderstanding of what is keeping us apart. In fact we have so much not in common that this can’t be avoided. Once they are given a decent explaination of some of their thorns about our faith, they may continue not to accept them but at least they will have a better disposition toward them. It all takes time and patience for change to happen. This is the painful part. We are anxious, but the Holy Spirit is slow. A little seed here and a little there and down the road it begins to grow things we never have the privilege to see.

In addition, our own need to be evangilized as well, who also have the some issues with these very same topics of faith. Maybe we might do good in discussing Holy Communion with our own family members by making a casual remark from time to time.
