I was raised in a catholic family, went to catholic school, but my family has always voted democratic. In my opinion, the democratic party has changed to such a degree that it’s values are inconsistent with catholic values. I brought this up with my close family members recently and I was told that they are voting for the democratic candidate because:
Clearly, I’ve made them think a bit too much about their choices and they don’t like it. Have I ruined my chance for reaching them–should I just back off and keep praying for them, or is there some other approach that I could try?
I’m really sad that my family does not share my faith and values. And I’m even more sad that they aren’t even willing to have an intelligent, reasoned discussion with me.
- There are more important issues like the economy and health care
- You should vote your conscience
- People will always “worship their idols” and we should leave the judging and punishing up to God.
