Catholic funeral is always heaven

What annoys me more are various stripes of Protestants, who use their funerals as sort of an altar call. And the most notorious in our neck of the woods is, believe it or not, the Lutheran Church- Missouri Synod.

These Lutherans do not want people running to the altar. But the pastor at the funeral wants you to understand that yes indeed, Dead Guy is in Heaven that very minute because he has the assurance of salvation, because he prayed the Sinner’s Prayer. And if all the mourners will just sit there in their seats and pray it in their hearts while said pastor leads them, the mourners will be assured of Heaven as well.

I find this obnoxious.

My Dad and his family were all Missouri Synod, and I don’t recall ever hearing anything about the sinners prayer and OSAS. Is this actually what Evangelical Lutheran Church MS actually teaches? Just curious. 🙂

I have no idea. I am Catholic, but the next biggest ecclesial community in the area is Lutheran MS. I have been to 5 of these funerals in about 15 years, and every one of them- including the one for my late BIL- was the same format.

But they make a Catholic funeral of any type look better by comparison to me!
