He doesn’t know your Catholic…I’m sorry.

A Reading from the Book of Armaments, Chapter 4, Verses 16 to 20

Then did he raise on high the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch, saying, “Bless this, O Lord, that with it thou mayst blow thine enemies to tiny bits, in thy mercy.”

And the people did rejoice and did feast upon the lambs and toads and tree-sloths and fruit-bats and orangutans and breakfast cereals…

Now did the Lord say, “First thou pullest the Holy Pin. Then thou must count to three. Three shall be the number of the counting and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither shalt thou count two, excepting that thou then proceedeth to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the number of the counting, be reached, then lobbest thou the Holy Hand Grenade in the direction of thine foe, who, being naughty in my sight, shall snuff it.”

Hah! One of my favorite scenes…

That is very funny. 😃

So, how is it going over there for you? I suspect you won’t convince anyone or change anyone’s mind, but at least if you are courteous, respectful, civil, non-confrontational, and informed they may be relatively polite and tolerant of Catholicism.

I don’t know about their tolerance: I went over there out of curiousity after reading this thread and decided to join up. One of the required fields was “religion/denominational affiliation” or something like that. I put in “Catholic”, of course. Elsewhere, it asks for a short “statement of faith”, and I put down, “Jesus is Lord and Saviour of all”.
My membership was declined—I wonder why?

Gee, I wonder why too?

I really do not think that posters on that board are tolerant at all. Some of what they say about Mary is downright scandalous. I would like to ask them how do they think that Jesus would respond to those who are so openly hostile toward Mary? My guess is that they would say they are not hostile to Mary, but rather to the interpretation with which Catholics hold Mary. Naturally, if you say Mary is venerated they say that it is the same as worship.

I do like it when they refer to the “Encyclopedia of Understanding the Bible” or some other additional book because that would seem to discredit “Scripture Only” since they must use another resource to assist them and as I understand “Scripture Only” is sufficient because the Bible is self interpreting. And they seem to think that it is fine to use that encyclopedia, but discredit the Early Church Fathers.

I am always trying to grasp an accurate definition of them. Are they too literal (If it is not in the Bible then it is not a truth)? Is it that everything, including the meaning, is accurately revealed in the Bible? That there are no mysteries contained in the Bible? That the Bible explicity answers everything? The obsession with Bible verses?

I’m too green to try to take them on so I will learn from others.

Yes, I saw that “Fox’s Book of Martyrs” was referenced, so, as you have seen, it’s only Catholic extra-Biblical sources that are off-limits!

I used to post on something called (Removed as per CAF policy) . It’s been discussed here on some threads. It’s loonier than the (Removed as per CAF policy) , but there are some similarities with some of the posters. I noticed that, unlike (Removed as per CAF policy) , the (Removed as per CAF policy) had some non-Catholic posters who were chastizing an individual for being uncharitable by claiming that Catholics aren’t Christians. That was encouraging. However, I have to say that when you see loony hatred, it’s almost impervious to reason and it becomes a matter of whether or not you really want to spend the time.

You’re wasting your time at (Removed as per CAF policy) and (Removed as per CAF policy) . Both of these sites have “moderators” that delete anything sounding “Catholic” or that puts shame on the (Removed as per CAF policy) sect. I use the word “moderator” since that is what they “claim” they are. In fact they are sensors that keep truth away from those who keep their head in a hole. All the Catholics I know that posted there in the past routinely had their posts deleted.

(Removed as per CAF policy) kicked me off whe they found out I was joining the Catholic Church. (Removed as per CAF policy) kicked me off whe they had too many Catholics posting there, about 4 of us were regulars for 2 or 3 weeks.

Find another site and stop wasting you time there. They are not fair, honest, polite or even “Loving” as 1 Cor 13 tells us to be. They have one of the rudest most bias sites on the web. The members there were able to write some of the rudest hate filled spewings I have ever seen on a so-called “Christian” site and get away with it - as long as it was anti-Catholic that is.:tsktsk:

Here is a quote from one of their own message streams in which someone was wondering why all of the Catholics were purged from the membership…

…Then the Webmaster determined that he would no long accept new Catholic registrations for the (Removed as per CAF policy) ; yet, the older Catholic (Removed as per CAF policy) members were allowed to stay (the ones that were not part of the proselytizing). However, it should be kept in mind that this a (Removed as per CAF policy) message board and it was not established to serve as a springboard for presenting Roman Catholic doctrine and associated proselytizing. So don’t do it or you’ll be shown the door as well.

Recently a Catholic attempted to register and his first application was rejected by a (Removed as per CAF policy) Administrator. Then he re-registered, leaving his church affiliation blank, and he was approved by the Webmaster. Then he updated his profile to Catholic once his membership had been established (as best as we can tell based on his membership approval date and the date that changes were made to his profile). This was considered to mean that he had misrepresented himself on his application. He was banned. He then attempted to re-register numerous times using different names etc. Each time he was caught and banned.

explains a lot.

Hi jay29,

I went and saw all the Catholic threads they’ve got going over there. They sure love to talk about Catholicism as long as there are no (or very few) Catholics around to answer back.

I was one of the Catholics tossed out in the Great Purge of 2004, and I’ll tell you something right now, for the record. When they say we were warned of rules violations and tossed out when we kept being bad, that’s just a straight-out lie in my case. I never received a single word of warning about anything, and other Catholics there told me the same thing. One day, out of the blue, our accounts just didn’t work.

It really bugs me that they’re rewriting history to justify their behavior. Sure, it’s their board (as they tell everybody all the time), but they’re not telling the truth about the Great Purge, pure and simple. The real reason, I have no doubt, is that three or four (Removed as per CAF policy) started paying attention to the Catholic responses to their attacks, and started defending Catholicism, and eventually became Catholic. I’m completely convinced that that’s the reason we were tossed out, and to save face they’ve made up this fable about us breaking the rules and being warned, etc. Pure and total bunk!

The posts on this thread have been edited due to the inclusion of a request/suggestion for other forum members to visit someone else’s message boards for the purposes of Apologetics backup.

In an effort to illuminate and explain the Catholic faith, CA makes every effort to provide our participants with a pleasant and informative place on the internet where Catholics and non-Catholics may gather.

It is our hope that respectful dialogue and discussion will lead to better faith understandings. And so in charity, we ask that our forums not be used for encouraging mass visits to other websites. In the past these kinds of efforts, although perhaps well intentioned, leave participants at other websites with negative impressions.

Your cooperation in helping promote these aims of faith exposition, hope for fruitful discussion and charity in implementation are sincerely appreciated.

This Thread Is Now Closed.

Sincerely,
Michael Francis
