WASHINGTON, D.C., September 23, 2009 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Over a year after Archbishop Joseph F. Naumann publicly prohibited the pro-abortion U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius from receiving Communion, Sebelius has broken her silence on…

I don’t really see what she has to be complaining about. She has held several positions of high office in the politcal sphere, and is clearly an intelligent woman. She would have been well aware of the the teaching of the Church vis a vis her own views on abortion. This move by the Bishop, though seemingly unlikely most of the time now, should not have been totally unexpected. I applaud the Bishop for taking the stance that he has. Abortion isn’t a victimless crime, and there has to be consequences for actions. Politicians seem to be getting away with supposedly having private religious views, that completely contradict with their public actions and statements.
Now if only someone like Tony Blair could be admonished in a similar way…abortion to one side…Human/animal hybrid embryos? That came in during his stint as Prime minister.
I didn’t like her cynical intimation that she was circumnavigating the prohibition. It seems to say, screw what the Church teaches, I’m just going to go my own way. It is hypocritical of her to say the least. It would be more honest for her to join a Protestant Church that wourld support her views, rather than being hypocritical about being a Catholic.

If that is painful then I would would solve that problem by having her body sucked in a giant vacuum to kill her and then we’ll talk!!!

Well, it’s supposed to be painful enough that one reconsiders their propogation of evil.

Since she is still doing it, it’s clear that there isn’t really painful enough.

That is truely sad, since not being able to recieve the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of our Lord should be the most painful thing a Catholic could concieve of.

If she really understood the nature of the Eucharist, it’s denial would have prompted such horror that she would have immediately fallen at the feet of the bishop to beg his mercy and renounce her errant position

Amen. The Real Presence of Our Lord should never be treated as if it were simply a symbolic commemoration of Our Lord’s Last Supper. The Transubstantiation is the most important article of our faith. If it were a false doctrine, then the Catholic Church’s teachings are all suspect to man-made invention.

Not only is she still propagating her evil, she has hinted that she is still recieving Holy Communion. She snidely thinks she is pulling the wool over the Bishops eyes, but she is fooling no one but herself.

WaPo: Do you continue to take communion?

Sebelius: I really would prefer not to discuss that with you. That’s really a personal-thank you.

HUH???A person who knowingly would receive Holy Communion while in the state of mortal sin, would add a new dimension of guilt to her already sinful state: she would commit the grave sin of sacrilege. In the very act of outwardly offering herself to Jesus for the union-in-love which is the essence of Holy Communion, she would be opposing Jesus by that rejection of God which is inherent in all mortal sin.

St. Paul warns in I Corinthians 11:26-30:
Therefore whosoever shall eat this bread, or drink the chalice of the Lord unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and of the blood of the Lord. But let a man prove himself: and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of the chalice. For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh judgment to himself, not discerning the body of the Lord. Therefore are there many infirm and weak among you, and many sleep.

Pray for this woman.Pray that she repents before she dies. She will bring her sin with her into eternity. She will envy Lazarus.I’m not judging her but her actions and I wouldn’t want to be in her shoes for all the tea in China.

It’s REALLY going to be painful.if she forfeits her salvation for her idolatory of secularism.

Well, she clearly does not think she is in a state of mortal sin.

There seems to be a conflict here. If she is guilty of sacrilege is it because (1) her position on abortion places her in a state of mortal sin; or (2) the bishop ordered her not to receive communion? If the bishop had not ordered her not to receive communion, wouldn’t she have still been guilty of sacrilege? It seems like politicians get singled out for harsh, puiblic disciplinary measures, such as this one, than other Catholics because there are a lot of folks who receive communion who are in state of mortal sin - for example, divorced and remarried people who never got an annulment, and people who use ABC. I also wonder how much good these public prohibitions do.

Just because the Church doesn’t do an inquisition into every person’s life (as we are all sinners), doesn’t mean that we should ignore scandal when we see it. Faithful Catholics cannot support abortion. Sebelius supports abortion with her voting record among other things.

Its really simple but it takes courage.

*It is interesting to see where some of the confusion comes in for her. I say confusion, for lack of a better word. She says that how she is “as a parishioner” is different than how she is expected to be as an elected official. I think that pretty much says it all right there. She doesn’t believe that we as Catholics, should carry our faith into everything we do. That is what it means to literally ‘live the faith.’ I can’t judge this woman, she needs our prayers. I feel badly for her, that she seems to be so confused like this. I think if she were to have an epiphany of sorts, basically that we are to be Christ for everyone to see, at mass and out of the parish in our everyday lives, she might come around. I’m a little confused by what she means by that…I mean, your status as a Catholic doesn’t change when you enter the political/working world. You don’t put your Catholic ‘self’ on a shelf, and then, pull it off when you’re back at your parish.

Let’s pray for her. *

Oh my. Is Madame Secretary the first American politician to publicly blame the Church for her condition?

I thought she was “pro-choice”

I’m sure it stings like a p(name removed by moderator)rick in her conscience.

Or, perhaps more accurately, forty-eight million p(name removed by moderator)ricks.

I like to think that I would be the first in line to welcome back repentant abortionists, that I’d be charitable enough to help dry their tears instead of sitting in the back smiling because they’d got what was coming to them. But don’t give me these crocodile tears, Madame Secretary. And don’t pretend you care about all those dead babies even when you are acting “as a parishoner.” It just makes it worse for you, in the end, and, in the meantime, it makes it a lot harder for me to remember my charity.

I’ll say a prayer for her tonight, if only to take my mind off the voice in the back of my head that keeps saying, “She’s got whatever’s comin’ to her,” over and over again.

Doesn’t matter. Her bishop made it clear that she is in a state of mortal sin.
I was responding to the line, “A person who knowingly would receive Holy Communion while in the state of mortal sin…”

Just because somone tells you something does mean that you know it.

This is what happens when you think more of your own political agenda, than saving your own soul. This attitude is rampant in the dem. party amoung Catholics. I don’t believe the agenda and being buds with Obama would be worth to most people. It sure wouldn’t be for me. Pray for all of them.

When your BISHOP tells you that you had BETTER believe it."Whoever rejects you rejects me."I believe one Jesus Christ said that,…you know…God.She is absolutely culpable as she has been informed. She sounds like she worships at the Church of ME.

I hope you’re not endorsing relativism, you know what Christ said about the lukewarm(urp!).

She has the blood of thousands of innocents on her hands-just another modern day Herod who fears for her kingship(her political career and the power that accompanies it) absolutely no difference at all-both are guilty of the slaughter of the innocents…no difference at all.

If she IS receiving the Eucharist in the face of her Bishop’s edict, she is going to pay for her disobedience and her idolatry of Self as she is obviously worshiping the reflection she sees in her mirror. The Catholic Church thank God is NOT a democracy.

If she is publicly outed as disobeying this edict and deliberately consuming Our Lord while in a state of mortal sin,she MUST be FORMALLY excommunicated (pour encourager les autres)-the last charitable step that hopefully will jar her back to her senses and provoke her to beg Christ through the Sacranent of Reconciliation to rescind her forfeit of her salvation.

(Actually she excommunicated herself long ago)
