The term catholic is not used in the bible. What do you mean by this term? roman catholic?
The word “Catholic” was first used by St. Ignatius in the year 107 A.D. We know that Catholic means “Universal”, for all of God’s people to belong to, his universal church, the Catholic church.
In the Catacombs in Rome, what is inscribed on the walls was that everything was Catholic in belief back then. Not a Protestant around to see the light of day.

when you use the word catholic do you mean “roman catholic” then?

Does this mean that even though guided by the Holy Spirit it does not mean the church will be holy all the time?
It means the Catholic Church will not teach error. It means that what the Catholic Church teaches, if always followed, will bring holiness. It is not a guarantee that people in the Church will be sinless or holy.

The Church IS Holy for the simple reason that she is the Body and Bride of Christ. Some of her members at one time or another will be corrupt but the Bride of Christ herself remains Holy.

In the same way that should you get mud on your feet, it does not mean that you are totally dirty all over.

Remember Paul’s conversion? Paul was not persecuting Christ when you look at it because Christ has already ascended to the Father. Yet in Acts 22:7, Christ says: “Saul, Saul, Why are you persecuting ME?”. When Paul was persecuting the Church he was persecuting Christ.

So remember that the next time you cast aspersions on His Church.

But it has taught error. Therefore would you call the Catholic Church is not what you calim it to be,

Has anyone else delved into Catholic history and found the utter corruption and moral depravity shocking? I find it hard to really be proud of my Catholic roots when there is sooooooo much corruption in it. I wish it was one or two isolated incidences but corruption and lust for power seem to pervade every second of the Church’s history. 🤷 And it continues to this day.
The Reformation was Gods way of bringing abot much needed change. Prior to The Reformation there was much corruption and abuse. What is beyond the pale is for those to claim that through centuries of apostasy the Roman Chuch is still the pilar of faith and the fullness of truth.

No, the Reformation (actually Deformation) was Satan’s ploy to get Christians away from the fullness of God’s truth - and millions have been fooled into the heresy of Protestantism (though the majority have pitiably been born into that detestable state).

So you agree with the selling of positions to the highest bidder?
So is demanding taxes be paid by civil governments of God or of Satan?
So is the teaching of a different gospel of God or of Satan?
Is the debauchery at all levels for centuries by priests, bishops cardinals and popes of God or of Satan?

Catholics do not do this, although we can say that you have

And there have never been Protestants guilty of any sexual or financial indescretion?

“Catholic” mean universal.

I believe that the Church in full communion with Pope Benedict XVI is the universal Church, a.k.a. “the Catholic Church”. However, I understand that there are others who don’t agree with that claim, and I am not offended if they refuse to refer to us as “the Catholic Church”.

I don’t mind if you want to call us “the Roman Catholic Church”, and conversely I hope you don’t that we call ourselves “the Catholic Church”.

It is a prohibition on erecting idols. You have made your statues idols, I have seen it. STOP COMPROMISING!
I don’t know what you’ve seen, but with regard to any Catholics who make statues idols, I join you in calling on them to stop.

I have no issue with the celebration I have issue that in both cases you have adopted a pagan holiday
I don’t see anywhere in the bible a blanket condemnation of inculturation. In fact …

So Paul stood in the midst of the Areopagus and said, "Men of Athens, I observe that you are very religious in all respects. For while I was passing through and examining the objects of your worship, I also found an altar with this inscription, ‘TO AN UNKNOWN GOD’ Therefore what you worship in ignorance, this I proclaim to you … "
Acts 17:22-23

Haven’t read the thread, so maybe someone has said this. Sure there are many horrible episodes in Catholic history. But you have to remember that the Catholic Church inherited the most powerful and brutal empire that the world had ever seen. Our earthly victory with Constantine is a bittersweet event. I think they handled it quite well, considering.

I don’t understand why some have a problem understanding the infallibility. It isn’t about humans but about God. If the church Jesus established isn’t infallible, it’s like saying He abandonned it. Reading about the too many denominations of the reformation, the frustration of many with their churches, the many lost between denoms, and the different teachings here and there, i can’t see it as something good. Does the church have bad members? it surely does…even the apostles abandonned Jesus at some time.

Im not going to waste my time but as I have said you have been taught wrong it is not your fault but you will be held accountable for having heard the truth and rejecting it.
How about you Hisalone? THIS applies to you!🙂

Is that right? What twelve have the right to excommunicate me from the Church?

I can definitely excommunicate myself through my actions, from the Church, but it is very difficult for anyone to actually excommunicate me if I am living the tenants of the Church.
