In my view, the term anti-semitic should apply to anyone hates Jews.
Jesus is a Jew. Where the Jews who repeatedly yelled “crucify Him” anti-semitic?
Who is the Founder of the Catholic Church? A Jew
And the apostles? Jews
I’ve been to Israel. It’s a beautiful country and the people were welcoming. I know Jesus loves His own and He longs for them to come to Him and I have no doubt that our heavenly Father will draw all Jews to Jesus, will unveil their eyes so that when He returns in glory, they will know without a doubt that Jesus is their Lord and Savior. Lets all pray for Jews to accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior

The Jew is painted as the enemy of God, a person who has rejected God.
There are plenty of Jews that reject God, just as there are Gentiles that do. Those who have heard the voice of God and turn away make themselves the enemies of God, both Jews and Gentiles.

The Christian scriptures teach "Take my enemies, who would not have me rule over them, bring them here, and kill them before me" (Luke 19:27).
No, Chosen, the Scriptures do not “teach” that Christians are to behave this way. Jesus is telling a story, and uses the behavior of the Roman authorities as an example in the story. He is not advocating this. It is an historical commentary. This is an example of taking a verse out of context, and therefore misunderstanding the meaning of the text. The parable is about something else.

"As they heard these things, he proceeded to tell a parable, because he was near to Jerusalem, and because they supposed that the kingdom of God was to appear immediately. 12 He said therefore, “A nobleman went into a far country to receive a kingdom and then return.” Luke 19:11-13

At that time, I am sure you will agree, there were no Jewish noblemen receiving kingdoms. Therefore, the attitude described in the parable is one that does not belong to Jews, or Christians, but to Roman rulers. And, as you have correctly noted, Pilate is a good example.

Jesus teaches this:

Luke 6:27-31
27 "But I say to you that hear, Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, 28 bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you. 29 To him who strikes you on the cheek, offer the other also; and from him who takes away your coat do not withhold even your shirt. 30 Give to every one who begs from you; and of him who takes away your goods do not ask them again. 31 And as you wish that men would do to you, do so to them.

Everyone who has advocated an anti-Semetic point of view has failed to adhere to the teachings of Christ.

  Some 1,250 years after God revealed Himself at Sinai before the entire Jewish nation and made an eternal covenant between God and the Jews, a group of Roman Pagans declared themselves the "new Jews" with a "new covenant" and declared that the Jews are a malignant and immoral force.
I am not sure what you mean by this, Chosen, unless you consider Christians to be “Roman Pagans”. All the first Christians were Palestinian Jews. Jesus (a Jew) made the New Covenant with Jews.

All those who reject God in favor of their own rulership become malignant and immoral, sooner, if not later. God is the Source of all that is moral in humanity, and those without God eventually fall into immorality. Since God created mankind for HImself, mankind suffers malignancies of Spirit if he rejects his Maker. That goes for both Jews and Gentiles.
It is this accusation that the Jews are “Christ killers” that will lead a Catholic Saint to write some 1500 years before Mein Kampf that the Jews are sub human fit only for slaughter.
Sure does not sound very saintly to me!

But the Truth is that all who reject God fail to achieve the fullness of their humanity. He created us for Himself, and without Him, we will never become what He intended for us to be. I am not sure what Jews believe (especially about original sin) but Christians believe that human beings are born into this world in a state of separation from God, and we are all “fit for slaughter”.

Ps 14:2-3

2 The LORD looks down from heaven upon the children of men,
to see if there are any that act wisely,
that seek after God.

3 They have all gone astray, they are all alike corrupt;
there is none that does good,
no, not one.

Ps 53:1-3

The fool says in his heart,
“There is no God.”
They are corrupt, doing abominable iniquity;
there is none that does good.

2 God looks down from heaven
upon the sons of men
to see if there are any that are wise,
that seek after God.

3 They have all fallen away;
they are all alike depraved;
there is none that does good,
no, not one.

 It isY this accusation that leads to the Catholic Church blood purity laws in post Inquisition Spain and in the Jesuit order. It is this accusation which will lead the Catholic Church to place the Jews in ghettos, to make them wear clothing marking them as Jews, to prevent them from having basic civil and legal rights. It is this accusation that will culminate in 2000 years of Christian ad nti-Semitism in the Shoah and the murder of one in every three Jews in the world.
Accusations, and the erroneous understandings of people do not equate to Church Teaching. There have been many Christians throughout history, granted, that have fallen short in their attitudes and treatment of God’s Chosen People. But the Truth is not defined by those who depart from it.
Since the Shoah, especially since Vatican II, the Church has taken real steps to correct attitudes toward the Jewish people.
Men are always in need of Reform. 👍
Perhaps a time will come when the Gospels will be edited free of anti-Semitism, when Jews will no longer have to bear either the false accusations or the sins of others.
No, the Gospels will not be “edited”. But that is ok, since they dont’ contain any anti-Semitism. 😉

They give historical accounts of the events. Jesus bore the sins of the Jews who rejected him and played a part in putting Him to death. They were guilty, and He forgave them.

Christians need to do the same.

I cannot believe in almost June 2011 that there are still people posting that “the Jews killed Jesus.” I have requested the moderators close this thread.

The theological reason Jesus died is to save us - people who believe in him - from our sins. Paul develops the theology of Christ’s death and resurrection and in that theology he says Christians/mankind in general are clearly to blame. b/c God demanded the sacrifice.

“the wages of sin is death”

I find it striking that I rarely see that quote whenever accusations of “the Jews killed Jesus” start flying. The Jews didn’t say that (according to Paul). God said it. The death of Jesus made our personal sacrifice not needed. Therefore who said what to whom at the Crucifixion is beside the point.

there is a long and disgraceful history of Catholic anti-semitism although there is also a history of harmonious relationships - it really depended on time and place but I agree that apology and etc. have definitely been called for and there is further to go on this. Besides I believe recently the Pope firmly repudiated the concept of blaming Jews for the death of Jesus, (March 2011):
Jewish groups and leaders around the world are welcoming a clear declaration from Pope Benedict XVI that the Jewish people are not collectively responsible for the death of Jesus.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he hoped to soon offer his “deep appreciation” to Benedict for his “forcefully rejecting … a false charge that has been a foundation for the hatred of the Jewish people for many centuries.”
“My fervent hope is that your clarity and courage will strengthen the relations between Jews and Christians throughout the world and help promote peace and reconciliation for generations to come,” Netanyahu wrote in a letter to Benedict, which the prime minister’s office made public.
A key Jewish envoy to the Vatican said the declaration - which she called “an excellent gesture” - shows that Benedict is “very committed” to the “deep connections between Christianity and Judaism” and to fighting anti-Semitism.
religion.blogs.cnn.com/2011/03/03/jews-laud-popes-insistence-jews-did-not-kill-jesus/

the Pope has repudiated this belief. Faithful Catholics must obey the Pope or so I read on CAF. Therefore even if people emotionally think the Jews killed Jesus they have to get rid of that belief.

Therefore to Chosen people I say the christian bible will not be edited, that would be much too controversial to attempt, but the gospels need to be looked at along with Paul, they need to be examined together. the description of the events and then the interpretation of the events.
