And that isn’t enough?

Luna
Exactly. It is enough and is why I do not support him. I would vote for him against Obama because I think any of the Republican nominees would be an improvement over him, but in the primaries, no way.

Sorry but I have to chime in here - I’m a conservative from Pennsylvania and have had more than a few interactions with Rick Santorum - and I will never vote for that man for anything.

He claims to be pro-life, yet campaigns for pro-abortion politicians when it suits his political career. He votes for massive government intrusion in health care (Medicare Part D) while criticizing others for doing the same. He endorses Mitt Romney and calls him a conservative (in 2008) when it suits him politically and then reverses his position later to fit his own political aspirations.

I have known many, many politicians, and I have never met a politician as arrogant as Santorum. It is this arrogance that leads him to believe that he can betray all of his core principles time after time to advance his own career while still hoping to retain his reputation.

This is a man that talks the talk better and more boldly than probably anyone out there, but he he fails repeatedly to walk the walk.

Just my $.02.
Being from Pa, I understand your two cents, but you have to work with what you got.
Peoole were tired of the way things were going and sent a message in Pa. We’re
deeply divided now and the choices are slim…

What a good example 🤷, we saw what happened when Kennedy left his faith and morals at the door of the White House when he became President!
Having grown up during the time of Kennedy’s election, he said he was not a Papist to mean that the Vatican would not influence him in his political decisions. The fear was that any Catholic would be a puppet of Rome since no Catholic had ever been elected President – so the public feared Rome’s influence. Little did the public realize.

I don’t think Kennedy left his faith at the WH door. From everything that came out afterward, he left it somewhere else long before that. He managed to pick and choose along the way before getting to be President. Not that it makes him a good or bad President – just a lukewarm Catholic. And Kennedy was never faced with the moral dilemma of Roe so we have no way of knowing how he would have confronted that issue where his faith would have them been deeply confronted by that decision.

Arguing that Rick is “the lesser of two evils” is one thing. What I found appalling is this idea that he’s a principled Catholic that doesn’t back down from his beliefs. This is provably false.

OK I see where your coming from. I guess I’m focusing more on the issues as they relate
to my conservative political view…God bless…

Question from a non-Catholic: what Catholic Church teaching gives Catholics the authority to declare other members of the Catholic Church are not real Catholics (Catholics in name only)? Thanks for your help; I would like to be able to cite this Catholic Church teaching.

Not that you are wanting to here from another non c but just like christians in name only we can tell people by their fruits. There are three types among us all, hot, lukewarm and cold, discernible by their word and deed. We’re even warned as believers to not even keep company with those who are called christians yet by their actions show otherwise…
Liars, those who keep getting drunk ect…

This pretty much sums it up for me. From the Gospel of St. Matthew;
"[16] By their fruits you shall know them. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? [17] Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit, and the evil tree bringeth forth evil fruit. [18] A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can an evil tree bring forth good fruit. [19] Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit, shall be cut down, and shall be cast into the fire. [20] Wherefore by their fruits you shall know them.

[21] Not every one that saith to me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven: but he that doth the will of my Father who is in heaven, he shall enter into the kingdom of heaven. [22] Many will say to me in that day: Lord, Lord, have not we prophesied in thy name, and cast out devils in thy name, and done many miracles in thy name? [23] And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, you that work iniquity. [24] Every one therefore that heareth these my words, and doth them, shall be likened to a wise man that built his house upon a rock, [25] And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and they beat upon that house, and it fell not, for it was founded on a rock."

And this is why it matters. From St. Paul’s 2nd letter to St. Timothy
"[1] I charge thee, before God and Jesus Christ, who shall judge the living and the dead, by his coming, and his kingdom: [2] Preach the word: be instant in season, out of season: reprove, entreat, rebuke in all patience and doctrine. [3] For there shall be a time, when they will not endure sound doctrine; but, according to their own desires, they will heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears: [4] And will indeed turn away their hearing from the truth, but will be turned unto fables. [5] But be thou vigilant, labour in all things, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill thy ministry. Be sober.

I would like to know if anyone thinks it might be a good idea for someone with authority in the church to contest some of the statements of some of these ‘in name onlies’. what is your opinion?

YES!!!
Our Bishops, May Almighty God Bless them, need to lead the Faithful by example. In our Catholic History, Bishops continually guarded the Faithful from Heresy and dissenters. We need that protection again.

Quote from Archbishop Fulton Sheen:
“Who is going to save our Church? Not our Bishops, not our priests and religious. It is up to the people. You have the minds, the eyes, the ears to save the Church. Your mission is to see that your priests act like priests, your bishops like bishops and your religious act like religious”
We need to, with all due respect and charity, avail ourselves of our Priests and Bishops and ask their help in defending the True Faith.

Just finished watching “Meet the Press” as David Gregory, a professed Catholic, hammered Sen. Santorum on his faith and moral stands that he is not ashamed to make public. Gregory even played a clip of President Kennedy’s “i am not a Papist” speech to insinuate that Santorum should leave his faith and morals out of the election debate.
David Gregory, Chis Matthews, Kathleen Sebilius, Nancy Pelosi, et al love to profess their Catholic upbringing and Faith, when it suits them, but fail to show any shred of Faithful Obedience of Catholic teaching when it comes to societal issues.
Is anyone else as sick and tired of these Catholic in name only types putting a secular face on Catholicism as i am? When did we become so afraid to wear our Faith openly? Why did we allow ourselves to be defined by the deserters?
I’m with you brother!

It drives me nuts when people say, “I’m a liberal Catholic.” What does that mean? Either you follow the tenants of the faith, adhering to what Christ and his bride has set forth, or you don’t. This is probably my biggest flaw…that I have little tolerance for this issue of “Cafeteria Catholics.” Sorry…rant over.

Don’t apologize for a heartfelt rant-sometimes you have to clear the air. I feel the same way about “cafeteria protestants”, and that’s part of the reason my dear wife and I have been attending Mass for the last 3 months- what a blessing that has been! The world needs more hard-liners when it comes to Christianity, so don’t ever back down!👍

I was beginning to wonder if I am the only one wondering this. I would think the church as a whole would be in the pulpits and on television daily writing and speaking out about such abuses as we have seen. It isn’t just the abortion issue, it is the radical loss of freedoms and the blatant acts committed against Christianity as a whole. I did see Franklin Graham speak out, but where are our priests and bishops. Why haven’t some cardinals weighed in. I am sure they have and I have missed them, but why isn’t there such an outcry that everyone is hearing it? If we don’t protect our right to our own beliefs and wear them as a badge of courage against such evil, when will we ever? I want to see my church leaders out in front speaking!

We can thank God for His great justice that quislings like David Gregory will have to answer for their betrayal of Christ for the sake of the world when they stand before His tribunal for judgment.

Was it so?,
As a foreigner I was not aware.
We considered Ken a Catholic President and were (up to now ??) proud of it…
