Catholic Iraqi Refugees in Lebanon Recall Horror of Militant Attacks

Suddenly ISIS militants stormed into their house in Iraq, and pointing their guns at their heads took all their valuables, their money and jewlery. They said they would be back and kill them if this family didn’t convert to Islam or pay a tax. Refusing to abandon their Catholic faith, they knew they had to flee, abandoning their house and all their possessions instead. This article tells the story of other Iraqi Catholics as well who never considered abandoning the Catholic faith and who, leaving everything behind before such threats, are in Lebanon now, not knowing how they are going to live.

What horrors. That country will never be the same. The middle east needs dictators, I’m sorry to say. Democracy does not and will not work where there are age-old blood feuds, religious and ethnic differences, and especially in the presence of militant Islam.

We never should have gone to war against Iraq. What a folly. We will be paying forever, in blood and money. Shock and Awe sure worked out well, didn’t it? What a joke. Did the Iraq oil money EVER pay for the war like you promised, Mr. Chaney? I was appalled when our congress gave Pres. Bush the go ahead to start this war. What have we gotten out of it? Wasted lives, wasted money, persecuted Christians. George W. Bush got Saddam’s pistol as a present for daddy. What’s in it for the rest of us?

What really saddens me is the lack of media coverage. In the UK the BBC is the state media channel (paid for by taxpayers) and there is almost a complete news blackout on the Christian genocide. If they report anything, they will mention any other faith or hide the fact that it is Christians who are being persecuted.

I found one TV channel which professionally covered the plight of the Iraqi Christians and interviewed some of the refugees - it was Al Jazeera - a Muslim channel. I am so ashamed of my country and the blatant hypocrisy of some of the leaders who publicly state their faith and act in a manner that is publicly anti-Christian. I suppose in addition to praying for the persecuted and the conversion of the persecutors, we should pray for the conversion of our leaders.

we need to help our christian bros and sisters,not just spiritually,but financially.i wish there was a direct connection to them e.g. send donation thru paypal and have them acknowledge it via skype to confirm their true identities.i was almost in similar situation decades ago and i now how it feels.
