Yea, this episode was pretty offensive…

Yahoo news:

“South Park” Parked by Complaints

Did Comedy Central grant the Catholic League its Christmas wish?

Following the Dec. 7 season finale of South Park, titled “Bloody Mary,” the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights slammed the network for its irreverent portrayal of church icons and sought to block the episode from being rebroadcast.

It appears the group may have met with success. A repeat of the finale was scheduled to air Wednesday night, but was seemingly pulled from the Comedy Central lineup without explanation.

I generally think South Park is usually pretty good with the irreverent humor thing…

This particular episode did not accomplish anything beyond offending the masses, at least in my mind. It was a pretty lame attempt at humor/

The few episodes of South Park I have seem, I cannot say I found any of the above the lowest level of gutter humor. To me, that is not funny.

Crude humor is not funny.

I must say that I am surprised, and pleased, at the outcome. I honestly didn’t think the Catholic League’s campaign would do any good - and I was wrong.

frommi: You nailed it: “ir - reverent”

  1. *]Lacking or exhibiting a lack of reverence; disrespectful.
*]Critical of what is generally accepted or respected; satirical: irreverent humor. The American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language, Fourth Edition

1: showing lack of due respect or veneration; “irreverent scholars mocking sacred things”; “noisy irreverent tourists”
2: characterized by a lightly pert and exuberant quality; “a certain irreverent gaiety and ease of manner”
    3: not revering god [syn:godless] WordNet ® 2.0, © 2003 Princeton University
I’m thinking # 3 on the bottom most applies and then leads me to say,"I cannot, nor should anyone calling themselves Christian watch (encourage/support/even permit) such horrid stuff. ((No matter how “funny” - and within the bounds of acceptability - the other episodes might be.)) Just think about that: watching that show AT ALL, because of this one episode, how would Our Lord view that?

It’s the kind of stuff that makes me want to stop the world and get off. Course then I would not be doing God’s work, would I? It’s hard to be a light to others when you aren’t WITH them, isn’t it? Oh well, press on Christian soldiers…
