Greetings all!

My wife and I are moving to Leigh Valley, Pennsylvania this May while I attend the accelerated nursing program at DeSales University in Center Valley. We were hoping for some insight on the Catholic culture over there and what churches some may recommend. We are conservative/practicing Catholics and would love to attend mass daily. Also, if anyone has any recommendations on living situations, that would be greatly appreciated. It’s a pretty big journey from California to PA, but we’re looking forwards to the adventure! Thanks for any (name removed by moderator)ut and insight =)

God bless and Peace,
Travis

I think you mean Lehigh County in Pennsylvania. I am not familiar with the churches in Lehigh County itself, but all of Eastern PA has a strong Catholic Culture. Lehigh County is “Coal Country” and had a huge number of Irish Immagrants as well as Eastern European. Along with the Roman Catholic Church, the Polish National Catholic Church and many Eastern Orthodox also live in the area. You should have no problem finding 2-3 parishes you like.

Good luck with your move!

God bless you on your journey. Praying to St. Christopher for your safe journey.

I do not live in PA, but I worked near there and many of the people I worked with are from the Allantown/Bethleham area. I found those that were observant Catholics were fairly conservative people…far more conservative in the practice of their faith and social views than many Californians. Between Graduate School and the Navy, I lived in Los Angeles, San Francisco and San Diego for about 12 years, so I think I know a little about its people.

Hi Travis,

My wife and I live about 45 minutes away from the Lehigh Valley and DeSales University. I sent you a private message if you have any specific questions about the area, since we moved from across the country (Texas) here about three years ago. 🙂

Cheers!

Hmmm. I live in the Poconos, just north of the Lehigh Valley. There is an Anglican Use Mass on Sunday evenings in Bath, which may or may not be close, depending on where you are going to be, and it is an offshoot of Fr. Bergman’s St. Thomas More parish at St. Joseph’s Church in Scranton, which is a good solid orthodox community. If you feel comfortable, PM me and let me know more specifically your intended location, and I will ask around too about daily Mass.

Also, are you buying or renting? Kids? Public, private or homeschool?
