I attended life in the spirit class’s a few different times so I could meet spiritually oriented believers.

Have you attended these classes??

Do you know people who have attended classes??

Did they get baptised in the h.s.??

Was there a difference in their catholic understanding??

What do you think of the life in the spirit class’s??

No idea what you are referring to.
A person gets Baptized ONCE.
There are not subsequent baptisms.

Yes, there are. The charismatic communities offer the Life in the Spirit class which leads to the Baptism of the Spirit.

I believe the Baptism comes towards the end of the series, where one manifests various gifts of the Holy Spirit. Speaking in Tongues is the basic gift, but there are others that may manifest themselves at that time.

The class has been around for 30 or 40 years so it’s pretty standardized by now. Thousands of people have taken it and you’ll have to ask around to see if the Catholics have a different or more intense understanding of their faith afterwards.

I’m talking about sacramental baptism.

Here is some general basic information about the Catholic Charismatic Renewal.

I have attended these classes many years ago and know others who have as well.

It would be good if they called it “Renewal in the Spirit” as “Baptism in the Holy Spirit” can cause misunderstanding.

Myself and many others were renewed in the Holy Spirit and began to take their prayer lives more seriously. When the sessions are planned carefully and those who share their testimonies and teachings prepare well, it is very effective.

As a result of the seminar, there is a greater desire to learn more about our Lord Jesus Christ and the teachings of the Church, and to set quality time aside for prayer each day. The Holy Spirit awakens gifts that we can help others with. It is up to the individuals to continue with a solid prayer life, and deepen their appreciation of the sacraments. Meeting together once a week for seven weeks is a good way to build community with the participants.

You also frequently see, as a result of these classes people who begin to participate in the life of their local parishes like they never did before. It’s no longer come to mass, fulfill your duty and go on with the rest of your week as before.

Given your 5 following questions, how do you answer them?
Have you attended these classes??
Yes
Do you know people who have attended classes??
Yes
Did they get baptized in the h.s.??
yes, but not necessarily all.
Was there a difference in their catholic understanding??
Understanding is an interesting word. Many received a much enhanced appreciation for their faith, and were spurred on to seek to increase it.

Not everyone will respond positively to them, as they bring an emotional aspect to faith; and some people do not seem to get very far beyond head knowledge.

It is a bit like asking “What does it mean to fall in love with someone?”

Some can appreciate another through intellect, but have little or no emotional attachment to them.

And some people seek an emotional high - with another person (falling in love), and when the emotion becomes of little intensity, they move on, seeking someone else to “fall in love with”. Likewise, some people seek an emotional high from religion; and when that fades, they seek that high elsewhere, or through other means.

I can’t say that we all have experienced someone who is intensely in love with God and things of God; but certainly some of us have. And to some of us that seems to be off-putting; to others and inspiration; and yet to others, an admiration coupled with “I can’t do that”.

If one is seeking to deepen one’s faith, the classes may be the means of doing so; but that may not necessarily apply to all who seek to deepen their faith.

I attended a class over 35 years ago.

Baptism in the Holy Spirit is a kind of mystical experience. The Catholic understanding of these things is best understood by a reading of the works of St Teresa of Avila and / or St John of the Cross.
