Can anyone recommend an affordable, Catholic teen camp (good reputation) with locations near NY for my two teens? It must be Orthodox, and I can’t believe I’m going to say this, but I’d prefer it be on the Catholic-lite side, for lack of a better term.

By Catholic-lite, I don’t mean shady and/or false teaching. I just don’t want a camp that is heavy on the devotions side.

In other words, my girls would probably not do too well with hours of Eucharistic adoration, and tons of novenas. They are pretty much resistant to Catholicism.

For those of you who are not familiar with my story, I converted in Sept of last year and my kids who are 14 and 17 attend a Protestant church. So they need to be eased in.

I hope to find a camp that is fun, where they will learn some basics about Catholicism.

At the end of the camp, I’d love for them to at least be more curious about Catholicism, as well as have newfound love of serving God.

Again, it must be Orthodox in teaching.

Thanks for your help!

Yes, you will definitely have to EASE those kids in before you can have them following happily along at your EF parish! 😉

BTW, God Bless and have a meaningful Holy Week!

The FSSP run a boys camp. It’s in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, which is not too far from New York. It’s called Camp Frassati. The website is down right now, but just do a quick search on Google and you might find some info.

Though I don’t know if that’s what you’d call lite:blush:

Doesn’t sound Catholic-Lite to me.

Well, considering that TrueLight has girls…

😊

Might be a little difficult to get into a boys’ camp.

I’m terribly sorry, TrueLight. I missed that part of your post! Forgive me.

You may as well disregard my post, in my own foolishness I made a mistake.

Don’t worry about it, I was just LOL when I read your post. When I was looking for a behavior camp for my son, a couple of people suggested camps that turned out to be just for girls. He would have LOVED that but it wouldn’t have helped him much!

😉

You might want to try Camp Notre Dame in the Erie Diocese. My husband took one of our sons there for a weekend last year. They loved it. They have week long camps for both boys and girls and it’s probably in the $200 range. It is in Fairview, PA. I don’t know how much teaching they even do - probably just Mass and prayers.

I am going to check into the one in Buffalo - thanks for posting the link!

I recommend driving to Indiana and going to “ND Vision” at the University of Notre Dame. You will NOT be disappointed. Strictly run by the Congregation of Holy Cross and ND Campus Ministry, this teen week is amazing, uplifting, charismatic, ethical, spiritual, sacramental, orthodox, …everything wrapped up into one amazing week. It is tremendous. Check it out!

Yes thank you! I am now thinking that I would like to have each of my kids attend at least one summer camp in their high school years. Each one will need something different so the more resources I can list the better!
