My wife and i have been married for a little over a year now. We were married in the Baptist Church. We have since moved from the south to the north and have gone to a local Catholic church. My wife has really enjoyed going to the church and has now asked about converting to the Catholic faith. Our question is, once converted can our marriage be recognized be the Catholic church or Can we renew our vows in the Catholic church befor a priest and then become recognized? Or what would we have to do?

Your marriage would be blessed by a priest prior to receiving the sacrements. Have you contacted a parish concerning your entry into the Church? If and when you do, you will be refered to the RCIA program, where you will meet with people just like you on the same journey. Welcome!!

So Sorry, I forgot to add to my post that I was already Catholic and have been Confirmed, Can’t believe I forgot to add that. Its just my wife that needs to Convert.

LOL! You still need to contact a priest, he can fix it. 😃

Ask a priest, but maybe you can. We did, but neither of us was Catholic nor married in a church. I’m not sure in the case of marriages performed in another church.

Not only can you make your marriage a Catholic Sacrament, as a Catholic, you must make it a Sacramental Marriage in the Church or obtain a dispensation to marry outside the Church. Ask your priest about what you need to do. Every situation is different so he can best advise you.

My DH was a Catholic when I converted, We had been married in a Protestant church, of which neither of us was a member (it was just a nice venue). Shortly after I was Baptised, the priest advised us that it was now time to get our marriage regularised.

It was a small private ceremony in which we renewed our vows as a Sacrament. I had invited a few friends and we had a small get together afterwards in the hall. Actually, they laid all that on as a surprise, along with a bridal bouquet for me. It was lovely and extremely romantic.
