I have been dating this same guy for 4 years off and on and over the past 1.5years steady. He has been a Catholic his whole life but kinda straded from the church untill he met me. I am a single mother of three boys and have had my previous marrige annuled. he has been married times two neither in a catholic church with three girls from the last marriage. He is now very active with the KC and very active in the kids CCD and helping with teaching there classes. he is a wonderful father, and truley a wonderful person but i don’t think he truley understands what it means to have a Catholic marriage and as we both have children from previous marriages how would the catholic church view our marriage? would it be as the traditional catholic marriage. Over the past couple weeks something has been bothering him and I’m not sure what so I will be heading over to see him this evening. is there any advice that one could give me as to how to talk to him about this and how important this sacrement is to me. I feel that he may not be taking it as serious as I am. He Knows that i am very addiment about this and i am sure he wants his next marriage to be catholic. I have probably put up with more in this relationship then i should have but because of our beliefs and values I have choosen to see if i can talk to him about this and try and work through things.

thanks Jody

You and he need to see a priest and discuss all the details with him. He will guide you.

His two prior marriages will need to be examined for validity before you can proceed with any marriage plans.

Because you have several prior marriages between you, and children you would be bringing in to a blended family, your priest may recommend special counseling or participation in a program designed especially for Catholic who have been previously married/divorced.

If he is not taking this seriously-- then you need to re-evaluate your relationship with him. Two previously faile marriages are a very big red flag in my book-- and may indicate he has issues that need to be resolved before you contemplate marriage with him.

you both need to see the priest pronto. His marriage investigation must begin at once and his situation be resolved before any romantic involvement can proceed. You may not even date until his situation is resolved. he is the only one who can do this. You have no part in this, except to wait and to pray.
