I have a question about Catholic history. Since there is no forum for “history,” this was my best guess for where it should go.
It’s actually two questions:
How many Catholics have been killed because they were Catholic? (Roman persecutions, communist China, etc.)
How many people have Catholics killed because they were not Catholic? (Inquisitions, etc.)
When I tell nonbelieves about all the Catholics who been martyred and persecuted for the faith, they usually respond by saying “The Catholic Church has done far worse.”
That strikes me as ridiculous, but I have no hard numbers to back up my argument. Has anyone seen any hard figures relating to these questions? Before doing the research on my own, I wanted to check whether it had already been done.
