Are they one in the same? I frequently see her adorned in beautiful clothes with gold and jewelry within the catholic church, but every where I read in the bible I get the impression she is humble and obedient servant of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Why the distinct diffrence in the 2 ?

It is this humbleness and the desire to fulfill the will of God which makes her the “Queen of Heaven”. Shouldn’t we honor our Queen and our Mother.

This is the same woman who is “clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars”. Rev. 12:1

Notworthy

There are also many depictions of her as the Sorrowing Mother dressed in black with no adornments.

The ones in which she is clothed in gold encrusted with jewels and that sort of thing are depictions of the gloried Mary who dwells now in heaven with her Son. We have no means to depict that except to use precious metals and jewels and other such things for we cannot come close to what a truly glorified person would look like.

In our life we will have many occasions to mourn, as she did, and many occasions to rejoice, as well. And, we all hope to dwell in heaven with the Lord, glorified with him, as Mary and the Saints are now.

In Catholic Churches you may also see depictions of Jesus majestically clothed gold and jewels representing him in his heavenly glory. As in the case of Jesus, these depictions of Mary beautifully adorned represent Mary as she now is in her heavenly glory:
12 Blessed is the man who endures trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life which God has promised to those who love him. (James 1:12)

notworthy Why is it the only mention of queen of heaven in the bible it is speaking of a pagan goddess, and you wish to attach that title to our saviors mother?

I site Jewish Tradition in the Old Testament. Jesus restored the Kingdom of David. Throughout the Kingdom of David, the Queen was not the wife of the king, it was the mother. There are numerous instances where the King is listed along with the Queen Mother.

Jesus, our King, reigns in heaven with his Queen. It’s VERY BIBLICAL!

No, I wish to attach a Davidic Title to the Queen Mother of my Lord.
Yes, I’m familiar with Jeremiah - Pagans attached a royal name to a false goddess.

I fail to understand how you can ignore something that is so Biblical. What is the purpose of the Old Testament, if not (among other things) to teach us about Christ and His coming kingdom?

You have two threads on Mary now. Why is she in your radar? Why do you refuse to listen to those who quote Scripture to see who she is to us? Quit it, I doubt you’re sincere. Keep flamebaiting, and you’ll get suspended.

Mary is our Mother and Queen of the New Davidic Kingdom

John 19:26 - Jesus makes Mary the Mother of us all as He dies on the Cross by saying “behold your mother.” Jesus did not say “John, behold your mother” because he gave Mary to all of us, his beloved disciples. All the words that Jesus spoke on Cross had a divine purpose. Jesus was not just telling John to take care of his mother.

Rev. 12:17 - this verse proves the meaning of John 19:26. The “woman’s” (Mary’s) offspring are those who follow Jesus. She is our Mother and we are her offspring in Jesus Christ. The master plan of God’s covenant love for us is family. But we cannot be a complete family with the Fatherhood of God and the Brotherhood of Christ without the Motherhood of Mary.

John 2:3 - this is a very signifcant verse in Scripture. As our mother, Mary tells all of us to do whatever Jesus tells us. Further, Mary’s intercession at the marriage feast in Cana triggers Jesus’ ministry and a foreshadowing of the Eucharistic celebration of the Lamb. This celebration unites all believers into one famiy through the marriage of divinity and humanity.

John 2:7 - Jesus allows His mother to intercede for the people on His behalf, and responds to His mother’s request by ordering the servants to fill the jars with water.

Psalm 45:9 - the psalmist teaches that the Queen stands at the right hand of God. The role of the Queen is important in God’s kingdom. Mary the Queen of heaven is at the right hand of the Son of God.

1 Kings 2:17, 20 - in the Old Testament Davidic kingdom, the King does not refuse his mother. Jesus is the new Davidic King, and He does not refuse the requests of his mother Mary, the Queen.

1 Kings 2:18 - in the Old Testament Davidic kingdom, the Queen intercedes on behalf of the King’s followers. She is the Queen Mother (or “Gebirah”). Mary is our eternal Gebirah.

1 Kings 2:19 - in the Old Testament Davidic kingdom the King bows down to his mother and she sits at his right hand. We, as children of the New Covenant, should imitate our King and pay the same homage to Mary our Mother. By honoring Mary, we honor our King, Jesus Christ.

1 Kings 15:13 - the Queen Mother is a powerful position in Israel’s royal monarchy. Here the Queen is removed from office. But now, the Davidic kingdom is perfected by Jesus, and our Mother Mary is forever at His right hand.

2 Chron. 22:10 - here Queen Mother Athalia destroys the royal family of Judah after she sees her son, King Ahaziah, dead. The Queen mother plays a significant role in the kingdom.

Neh. 2:6 - the Queen Mother sits beside the King. She is the primary intercessor before the King.

The daughters of kings have delighted thee in thy glory. The queen stood on thy right hand, in gilded clothing; surrounded with variety. ~ Ps. 45:9

The role of Mary as Queen Mother is type or fulfillment of the Jewish gebirah. udayton.edu/mary/questions/yq2/yq282.html

As a matter of history…the mother of the King is the Queen or Queen Mother. Since the king may have more than one wife at different times in history, the people were encouraged to seek intercession from the queen mother…Mary is our Queen mother and intercessor to our King of Kings and Lord of Lords…make sense now?

The pagan gods were all referred to as “God.” Should we stop referring to the true God as “God” because it was used to describe pagan Gods?

Have you not heard of Jesus being referred to as “The King of Kings?” I have heard of no one considering this title innapropriate. (Catholic or Protestant.) Yet, in the third century, King Narse of Persia was widely known as, and called, the King of Kings.

By the way, the “biblical” referrence that you are referring to regards the pagan goddess “Astharte.” The bible instructs us not to worship the pagan goddess, which of course, doesn’t exist.

You cannot discern the difference between the non-existant Astharte and the real-life Mary? You cannot discern the difference between worshipping a non-existant false goddess and honoring the mother of Jesus?

Jesus IS the King of Kings, no matter how many pagan human kings may have claimed the title. Mary IS the queen of heaven, no matter how many pagan goddesses claimed the title.

Don’t bother…

So…by your errant thinking this is wrong? That’s a real shame because you must also now not believe the following title of Christ. Since the Word of God plainly says that it belonged to pagans!

**Ezra 7:12 Artaxerxes king of kings to Esdras the priest, the most learned scribe of the law of the God of heaven, greeting.

Ezechiel 26:7 For thus saith the Lord God: Behold I will bring against Tyre Nabuchodonosor king of Babylon, the king of kings, from the north, with horses, and chariots, and horsemen, and companies, and much people.

Daniel 2:37 Thou art a king of kings: and the God of heaven hath given thee a kingdom, and strength, and power, and glory:

2nd Machabees 13:4 But the King of kings stirred up the mind of Antiochus against the sinner, and upon Lysias suggesting that he was the cause of all the evils, he commanded (as the custom is with them) that he should be apprehended and put to death in the same place.

1st Timothy 6:15 Which in his times he shall shew who is the Blessed and only Mighty, the King of kings, and Lord of lords;

Apocalypse 17:14 These shall fight with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them, because he is Lord of lords, and King of kings, and they that are with him are called, and elect, and faithful.

Apocalypse 19:16 And he hath on his garment, and on his thigh written: KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.
**
The Blessed Mother is right there in Revelation 12:1. She is also the “Giberah” (Queen Mother) of Jesus Christ the Messiah because He holds the position as king of the Jews.

But no one taught you any of this and you have not looked into it for yourself…all you do is enter here and seek to impugn the real New Testament Christianity. Pitiful…

Actually you will see Mary depicted in many different ways. When she is depicted from life, she is always clad simply – for example, in Michaelangelo’s Pieta. When she is depicted after the Assumption, she is shown in glory, arrayed as a queen.

This matches the historical Mary, who was a humble woman of whom much was asked, and who gave it all in life and was assumed into heaven.

Give me a break. First, The word “god” comes from pagan origins. Should we stop refering to the Lord as God?
Second, you need to take a course in Logic. Correlational data does not imply a common source. So, yes pagans and Christians use the term “queen of heaven”. But It comes from different sources and is used for entirely different reasons. For the pagan, the “queen of heaven” was a goddess worthy of worship. For the Christian, the queen of heaven is a human being who is the queen mother of our great God and Saviour and King, Jesus Christ. And our as for sources, the Christian gets this from revelations 12 where Mary is describes as “a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under feet, and on her head a CROWN of twelve stars.” Get it? Got it? Good. By the way, the vast majority of Christians in the world honor mary as the queen of heaven, including Catholics, Eastern Ortodox, and Oriental Orthodox. Why do protestants, a novel minority, really believe they have rediscovered true Christianity? Such is silly when one considers the Apostolic origin of the Catholic Church and the Eastern/Oriental Orthodox Churches.

Ahh, but you will find nary a single protestant who would dare associate Mary with the same reverence. So if by christian you mean some form of Catholic then I guess your statement would be correct.
