Catholic Mass and longing

Hello all,
Many of you know I am not Catholic. I m currently on vacation and my parents wanted to go to church on Saturday evening, like we often do on vacation, I got to Mass at a Catholic Church. I enjoyed it very much and even got a blessing at communion time. I have been to Mass before and after, I always long to become Catholic and receive Comunion. After this Mass, the longing was more intense and I have a little over a year left until I turn 18. I just want to stop longing. I know I need formation but my parents stop me from becoming Catholic. I want to do something in the meantime. Prayers and advice would be appreciated.

This is true of one who was baptized Catholic and who has not yet received the other Sacraments. One baptized as a Protestant would need to undergo formation and be received into the Church first.

We will always be longing for someone or something. It is part of being human. Young children long for their birthday or Christmas and the presents. School aged children long for the summer holidays instead of doing homework and sitting in a hot classroom. Someone preparing to get married longs for the day the marriage will take place. Parents expecting a baby long to finally see the baby and hold him/her in their arms. Grandparents long to see their new grandchild and might have to wait 6 months due to being in another country or a different part of the country. Those married men becoming deacons have to wait until they are in their mid 30s before they can be ordained. Someone else waits for the day they retire from working life.

While longing to be Catholic you can read the gospels. See it as a time to get to know and love Christ more. If your parents allow it, it is possible for you to get to know Catholics in your parish and also in the same age group. While being the only Catholic in the family it is important to know other Catholics. It is never about me and God in the Catholic Church but me, God and the whole Catholic Church.
 
Pray, read Scripture, make spiritual Communion.

Also remember this feeling for some day when the novelty wears off being Catholic and you’re not as intense about it.

Seek out the priest at the nearest Catholic Church.
First and foremost, pray to God for strength and guidance.
