Greetings in Christ to all!
Thank you for your posts and continuing discussion. On this Ash Wednesday we are reminded of the beautiful Liturgical season which exists in our faith. To consistently renew us and bring to the forefront Christ’s mission…A Mission of Love to save us! Thanks be to God for such a beautiful faith and to the men and women in our lives who sacrificed much so that we might come to know Christ in a deeper way.
In regards to the comments, we first want to say thank you. We appreciate deeply the review of the materials and our efforts to expound on the most sacred of all forms of worship, The Holy Mass. All of them are taken very sincerely.
On the first point related to female Altar servers, we apologize if we gave the impression that discernment would only occur to a male altar server. It is entirely possible that the Holy Spirit could inspire a young women to consider the religious life because of her service at mass. God can do anything he desires, all he needs is our “Yes” to perform such an act. We were simply re-conveying the point that has been made by repeatedly the Vatican that the service at the Altar is a source of Priestly vocations. It was not our intention to demean the service provided by women or their opportunity to discern a religious vocation.
As was stated in the post, action in small groups is one of our deepest desires that will come from this project. That groups of Catholics will come together to discuss their faith, their understanding of the Mass, and how Christ may be calling them to deepen their relationship with him. We hope that many lay faithful will meet both within the parish setting and on their own. We do have a small free guide book being developed that will help this occur and hope to have it out in about 30 days. This will be downloadable from our website.
In regards to the comment on the Lord’s prayer, we have posed the question to a few Office’s of Divine Worship and will give you their insights soon. In our own review of the General Instruction of the Roman Missal, posture at this moment is not specifically or explicitly stated for the congregation as it is for the Priest. We do believe that Posture is important however and that much care should be taken by the lay faithful to understand more deeply “WHAT” is going on and “HOW” I should respond in my action and thought. Many congregations perform actions by habit, not necessarily by a true understanding of the moment in the mass. It is the responsibility of the Pastor and the lay faithful to continually evoke a sense of Sacredness in the liturgy which will evoke a natural response of Reverence and Awe.
That is why this project was created. If we can provide a spark that begins this active discussion then Thanks be to God!
