I don’t know if this will help you feel more at peace or not, but I’ll try. Mother Teresa was once asked about the question of immigration between India and Pakistan. I’m not sure of the legal problems, I won’t pretend to know. But she said something that was very deep.
“I try never to look at people politically or economically. When we do that, love is much more difficult. When I look at people and see Jesus, love is so much easier.”
While the Church has said that nations must develop fair immigration laws and that citizens of nations must comply with them, she also reminds us that every one, legal and illegal is our brother and sister.
When I think of Catholics migrating to the USA, I have one positive thought about that. I have often found that those who suffer poverty, oppressioin, injustice, etc, are often the most devout and holy people. They enrich our faith when we’re weak.
Like I said, I don’t know if this helps give you some peace over this question. It’s just me sharing some thoughts.
