Hmmm … much as I approve of a Pope who likes the occasional beer, I’m not sure if the caption is being critical (ie implying that the argument is rendered irrelevant because the beer dulls the bra(name removed by moderator)ower or something)

I actually used that on the infamous “Lady Gaga says that the Pope is irrelevant” thread.

I think I’m going to make Eastern Catholic memes myself before October 14. 🙂

Who cares about Lady Gaga. Look even Stalin thought the Pope was irrelevant. Don’t elevate Gaga’s power status ahead of old uncle Joe and his Red Army.

I once saw a John Paul II t-shirt. The caption read:

“I like the Pope, the Pope smokes dope.”

Of course it’s insulting but if you take that the wearer was pro-marijuana and somehow got it into his head that JP II was in some way pro-marijuana well it would have been a non-insulting t-shirt from the point of view of the wearer.

Then in one of the old MAD Magazines from the early 90s there was a scene with John Paul II coming onto a talk show and to the audiences’ full approval punching out the host, Morton Downey Jr.

Open to interpretation, but I didn’t take it that way. It’s more along the lines of indicating something is irrelevant by posting something completely irrelevant to the subject at hand.

I loved it…passed it around to my friends and family.

Right…I wouldn’t find it offensive at all, because the wearer doesn’t intend it as such.

Oh I love it too … and read it more as the image is so overwhelmingly cool and awesome that anything else just pales into insignificance. 🙂
