Catholic military order in the works - please pray

Wow, is this for real? I’ll pray. Will it try to get recognised by the pope (might be hard)?
 
This will never be associated in any way with the Catholic Church.
Finally, as is evident, since the existence and purpose and justice of a Catholic Military Order has been established and defined and defended by the Catholic Church for more than 900 years, it is not necessary for members of a modern Order to have the expressed initial call to action from the Holy Father or local Bishops, because such as is the good work which is proposed to be done, that all can be assured that it is a thing so greatly pleasing to the Divine Majesty to take up arms to defend fellow Catholics when and where necessary, that all who participate can be assured of the grace and blessing of God in this world and the world to come, if they but persevere as His faithful servants unto the end, just as Blessed Urban II preached at Clermont in 921 years ago.

Assured of graces and blessings? But no blessings from Bishops?

The Bishops who are cited by the website are calling for nations to defend Christians. They are not calling for a Catholic army to be raised.
 
A lay apostolate has a lot fewer requirements than a Catholic military order. There are even fewer for a simple club or association. A “private military company,” which is what this group says it legally is under US law, can pretty much do what it wants. So this group should be careful about what it claims to be under canon law. You will notice that although they talk about being a Catholic group, they don’t actually use the word Catholic in their official group name. Why? No bishop approval, that’s why.

So far, their website looks pretty reasonable, but they have a tendency to have to walk back stuff at the end of a webpage after going a bit far. But they have sense if they are walking it back.

The webpage about Crusader saints is pretty nice.
 
How would this work in the grand scheme of things? I’m not from the USA but I would think a private military force would be illegal here… I’m fairly sure the UN is not OK with mercenary groups, so how would they get to Syria and places that need them? Would they refuse to fight except in defence of Christians? Plenty of other religious groups are in need too.

The only way I could see this working is if some country that doesn’t mind hiring mercenaries was to hire them, but surely they would then have to do whatever they were told.

Also why would you just want to defend Christians and not anyone in need? Wouldn’t a general anti-terrorist peace-keeping force make more sense? Like the UN peace corps without all of the “stand by in Srebenica and let the Serbs slaughter everyone” ****?

I have a very bad feeling about it. There isn’t a place for mercenary groups in this day and age. I get that they are being above board and doing everything legally, I just don’t see that it will be remotely beneficial.

And I agree with other posters, the Pope will never sanction something like this.
