I am a revert. I left the Catholic Church as a teenager as a result of several mission trips I went on with an evangelical community church. In 12 yrs of Catholic schooling and CCD classes, I never learned that Catholics could go on mission trips.

Now I’m all grown up, am back in the Church, and have teenagers of my own. I still only have protestant friends on the mission field.

I only know of one Catholic group that does short term missions.

Aren’t there any more?

I want to take my kids and go on a trip together. I have a degree in Spanish that I got in order to be a missionary to Mexico.

How can I find any other Catholic missionary organizations?
 
Ask your youth director, they are usually plugged in to missions opportunities (which have changed since I was a kid, lovely mess our sue happy culture has made with insurance issues…)

I went to Mexico on my first Catholic mission experience when I was 16 years old. There are many opportunities for mission in the Catholic Church, which “is missionary by her very nature.” (Redemptoris Mission 5)

I am a member of the Missioners of Christ lay community. It’s difficult to find Catholic mission groups that specifically do evangelization work (after I became Catholic, I looked around a lot). This is one of the few groups I’ve found who do. And it’s very refreshing to find a Catholic mission where there’s no question that Catholic social doctrine (and all Catholic doctrine) will be wholeheartedly embraced.

My husband and I are in search of a mission in which we can participate, say for a week a year. I am Catholic, my husband is not. Are there such opportunities in any Catholic missions that you know of? Please list them, or help me to know how to search for them. My initial Google search didn’t find much. Thank you.

Maryknoll is one organization which has a lot of missions possibilities.
