Hello! anyone read the “New York Times” columnist Ross Douthat article “The End Of A Catholic Moment” and a reply by Rod Dreher’s “There Never Was A Catholic Moment” in the U.S.? Both were thought provoking. I saw them on realclearreligion.com website this morning.

and the unexpected abdication of Benedict XVI has only confirmed the narrative of a church in disarray.
This alone makes me think the first writer doesn’t know what he’s talking about. Why the **** is it so hard for our society to accept that Pope Benedict is retiring because he’s an 85 y/o man with heart problems trying to run the world’s largest religion. The man is likely exhausted and he’s abdicating because he feels it’s the best move for the Church.

But no, we live in a world of nefarious purposes behind every decision, where a man can’t retire without being berated by the media and accused of unspeakable atrocities.

… Please, Lord, hurry up and bring the apocalypse, this is ridiculous >_>

Indeed, between Mitt Romney’s comments about the mooching 47 percent and the White House’s cynical decision to energize its base by picking fights over abortion and contraception, both parties spent 2012 effectively running against Catholic ideas about the common good.
EXACTLY. they are BOTH ramming ignorance, bigotry, and immorality down our throats.
