I appreciated the stance that Pope Benedict XVI first took in the initial years of office, at least until riots and murders on the streets of the House of Islam broke out in retaliation to a comment in one of his speeches.
He noted that actual theological dialogue between the two groups have invariably been fruitless and circular, and the better form of dialogue would be an appeal to more civil treatment of each other’s religious minorities would be the form of rapprochement that the world was in most dire need of at the time.

It is an appeal that fell onto death ears for the most part, as the genocide against the Christians of the ME continues unabated.

Likewise, maybe, maybe Islam is truly a “religion of peace” as some claim and the fundamentalists are perverting it. But the historical evidence for that is scant compared to the “No god but Allah” camp. The most we can say is that “No god but Allah” is at least a plausible interpretation of the true “essence” of Islam – and that its relative superiority, both historically and today in numerical terms at least, means it’s probably closer to the truth of Islam than the relatively small, quiet, and new “religion of peace” camp.
I think the above is very well said. Cutos.
