Catholic on CA Radio Sounds Like Protestant (End Times)

I’m listening to Jim Burnham on CA radio (from a while ago) and he talks about the times of the end. The stuff he talks about (an antichrist, Jews converting before the end, the sign of Jesus in the sky, great apostasy, Christians falling away). He even taught from Matthew 24.

I didn’t know any Catholics believed in this. It certainly came as a surprise to me. I normally thought Catholics looked at people who believe in these things as morons. What’s your take?

I didn’t hear what he said but I understand what you’re talking about. The end times are real but the Left Behind view that many Protestants hold is not.

I didn’t hear this program so can’t comment on it.

But Matthew 24 is just as “Catholic” as the rest of the NT; so is the End time.

We should all yearn for our LORD’s return, since on that day HE will bring Life Everlasting with HIM! with regard to the End time, as JP2 once said, “Be not afraid”!!!

PS; with respect to Jews converting, that isn’t just MT24; St Paul speaks of this as well.

As for the anti-Christ figure, I heard in an interview an Anglican priest (I forget his name) say something along the lines that the anti-Christ is not one person. When we disobey God, we are being the anti-Christ. He said we all perhaps have a bit of the anti-Christ in us. The logical conclusion from his statement (as it was a secular channel) is that sin is the anti-Christ. What that priest said stuck with me and it seems compatible with Church teaching. If someone knows better than I and it is not, please tell me.

The term antiChrist occurs only in the letters of John and definitely refers to persons; there will be more than one; but he does not say that every sinner is an antiChrist. If that were the case, the term would have no meaning.

The problem with alot of Evangelicals is that they try to interpret difficult passages from Old Testament prophets along with the Apocalypse, and they end up in a wild guessing game. Jesus gives us VERY clear signs in the Gospels to look for in the End Times. Nation turning against nation, earthquakes in diverse places, pestilences and famines, terrors from Heaven, signs in the sun, moon and stars, strange occurences in the seas, people terrified. It is very common to hear the claim that we have had all these things happening from the very beginning. This however will be on a scale never before seen.

I would hope that Catholics would be charitable enough to view people who held different views as mistaken rather than as morons and set about correcting them with the teaching of the Church.

If you google “end times” or other appropriate words on Catholic Answers you should pull up some articles which will give the Catholic view. Carl Olson’s book “*Will Catholics Be Left Behind” *would also be a help.
