Continuing the discussion from Talking To Priests About Problems:

I have to say, as far as the Catholic Religion goes, it’s an
Awesome faith to follow. However, people do disagree with
The church on some issues. My opinion is, the religion itself
Is just a faith where people believe in the same things, you
Don’t need to go into church to show the lord you love him.
I tried to head back to church after years of being away, my
Journey was interesting, but the trip back to church was a big
Dud. I owed it to the lord to at least try, but it’s a no go.
My personal opinion is, you can be religious without
Going to church, nobody should bevpressured into
Believing how you show your love is mass and heavy church
Attendance. I know thet we all have our opinions on the Catholic
church,that’s fine. I needed to speak up. I’m not ashamed or afraid
To reveal how I feel. I just wrote it down, feel free to commet. I
Live seeing what people have to say. I never judge, if you believe
In something Inmay not, so be it. Don’t be afraid to write he
You feel about the religion. Peace and love to all.

Faith is a set of beliefs, but “Religion” is defined by dogma, rules, laws and actions. So, a person does indeed need to “go into church” to practice the Catholic religion. Catholicism revolves around the sacraments. You have to go to church to get the sacraments. You can’t baptize yourself! You cannot give yourself the last rites on your deathbed, either. If you want to be Catholic, you have to go to church. That’s where the action is!

But of course you can love Jesus without going to church, just like a lot of non-denominational Christians do. But they don’t receive the Body and Blood. You have to go to the Catholic Church for that.

My home city. I did go on ss small journey,
To see if my future has going back to
Church, hecencouraged me to
Head back, but it was a no go.
I know that finding out about that
Was important, and I’m glad. I really
Think going to church is a personal choice,
And whatever people do ir believe is fine, we
Should live our lives the way we want, the lord gave
Us a brain, we need to think of how we feel
About organized religion, and what to and
Not to believe. If you have an opinion about

You can love Jesus even if you’re not going to church.

But.

If you love Jesus and you believe He wants you in church why wouldn’t you do what He wants?

If you’re a Catholic then you believe at least the basic teachings of the Church. One of those teachings is that God Himself told us to go to Mass every Sunday, to go to Confession and receive Communion, to baptize our children.
If you believe these things and refuse to do them how can you say you love Jesus?
If you don’t believe these things then what is the point of claiming to be Catholic?

The point of going into church for Catholics is JESUS IS THERE IN PERSON.

To say you love him and never go to see him would be like saying you love your friend but you never go visit him, never go to his house even though it’s a short distance from your own, and you can just love him from under a tree in the park somewhere instead.

Plus, as Catholics, when we attend Mass, we get the chance to receive Jesus physically into our bodies in the form of the Eucharist. This is super important for us. God does us the favor of joining us physically.

Church for us is not just some happy clappy prayer space. It’s where these very important rituals central to our faith take place daily.
 
To love Jesus is to do His will. To do His will is to go to church.

Attending the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass is an amazing blessing! Maybe try going to a Latin mass?

Graces attached to hearing a mass:
  1. For your salvation, God the Father sends His beloved Son down from Heaven.
  2. For your salvation, the Holy Spirit changes bread and wine into the true Body and Blood of Christ.
  3. For your sake, the Son of God comes down from Heaven and conceals Himself under the form of the sacred Host.
  4. He even abases Himself to such an extent as to be present in the minutest particle of the sacred Host.
  5. For your salvation, He renews the saving mystery of the Incarnation.
  6. For your salvation, He is born anew into the world in a mystic manner whenever Holy Mass is celebrated.
  7. For your salvation, He performs upon the altar the same acts of worship that He performed when on earth.
  8. For your salvation, He renews His bitter Passion in order that you may participate in it.
  9. For your salvation, He mystically renews His death and sacrifices for you His precious life.
  10. For your salvation, He sheds His Blood in a mystic manner and offers it up for you to the Divine Majesty.
  11. With this Precious Blood He sprinkles your soul and purifies it from every stain.
  12. For you, Christ offers Himself as a true burnt offering and renders to the Godhead the supreme honor which is its due.

Your post seems to be all about feelings and how feelings should direct our lives.

Something to consider…

The twelve apostles abandoned Jesus at the hour of his greatest need because of their feelings. They felt afraid or insecure or in the dark about what was about to happen. Judas felt – and sincerely, we would suppose – that his act of betrayal was something he had to do. Jesus, himself felt such agony about his impending commitment to God’s will that he sweated blood. Should he have gone with his feelings about what the Father was asking and said politely, “No thank you. I don’t feel very good about being scourged and crucified. Maybe I’ll feel differently in a year or two, but not today.” Should Peter have abandoned Jesus because he felt scared? Or Judas betrayed Jesus because he felt that his act would be best for everyone in the long run? Caiaphas, the High Priest, felt that it was good for one man to die for the people.

Feelings are not the best gauges of what we ought to do at any given point in time. Wisdom, sound judgement, good counsel, self-discipline, commitment to the good, courage in the face of fear and long suffering in the face of apathy are far better strategies in the long run than chasing after or being ruled by immediate feelings. Feelings can be indicators of something, but they aren’t always the best or most reliable with regards to how we should act or the choices we should make.

My grandparents used to say they were going to “hear Mass”. In their day, the Mass was all priest, choir, and server. Dominus vobiscum, Et cum spiritu tuo…

At some point (I’m not sure when) the mass became what I think they called a “dialogue mass”. The people responded (in Latin) as the altar server would. I’m not sure if this was exactly everything, but at least they responded at some points. I still have my mother’s missal, which has the entire Mass, including all the feasts of the year at the time, in Latin and English.

Today’s Mass is obviously a subsequent outgrowth of this dialogue mass. The Latin is dropped, and a lot of the formalities have been trimmed away. In the process, I guess much of the mystery has been stripped away. I’m not a frequent Mass goer, and I’ve never attended a “Latin Mass”, so much of what I’m saying is what I can glean from examining the missal.

I’m curious why Mass was better attended when it was not so easily understood. It seems very dry today, on the few occasions I have gone to Mass on Sunday, the priest was buzzing through the ritual, the choir was just a few people, many in the congregation sat with their football jerseys proudly displaying the local team, some in shorts, some in jeans… I felt really out of place. I don’t condemn them for that, God knows I’m as much a wretch as any of them. But the atmosphere is not pleasant.
 
If you want to be a follower of Christ, you must be willing to do anything for his sake. You must be willing to die. You must be willing to reverse the course of your life if this is what he wills. If you can’t even be bothered to go to mass on Sunday, you clearly are not very interested in doing what Christ wills.

Divorcing my dad, what for? Marriage is just a piece of paper
Showing proof of marriage, now you have to officially be
Recognized as unmarried by some annulment, for what?
They went to court and officially divorced? Jesus accepts it,
But the church doesn’t, what does being Catholic have to
Do wit divorce? That is one example of things in and by
The church that I disagree with. I may need to meet with
A priest again, but the point is, as much as I thank you for your opinion
On the church. I just can’t find the strength to go because of
Those disagreements. I wish I could change my mind,
But I attempted to go and it failed. I’m highly religious though.

I am not sure what the point is of you posting this here? It’s not like the vast majority of us are going to say your viewpoint is perfectly fine and just keep missing Mass and complaining about your disagreements with the Church.

Please show me the scriptural passage where Jesus accepts divorce. For someone with very Protestant leanings, I think you might want to bone up on the source from which all Christian teaching is derived.
