Catholic or Orthodox

Is it as shocking when Orthodoxy does the same to Catholicism? Insisting everything be discussed on Orthodox, eastern terms?
I never characterized the problem as shocking. I also call your attention to what I wrote in a previous post: “what I find, is that in discussing these issues, different groups approach the matters from different perspectives and with different presuppositions about Holy Scripture and the interpretation thereof, the role of tradition, and church authority. Some people (and they can be found in all groups) are unaware of that, or can’t accept that, or simply refuse to respect other’s perspectives , and then the discussions become entirely fruitless.”

I simply wanted to ensure people understood this is a rampant problem within Orthodoxy not confined to a specific jurisdiction and even problematic between jurisdictions. It’s not good no matter where it’s found, but it does less good if one doesn’t recognize the problem at home when pointing out that problem in another’s home.

And it’s rampant within Catholicism as well (and in Protestantism, and among atheists, and so on).

I should examine my post to see if I mentioned this.

Not directly, in the same manner as you did, but yes.

I would still very much like an answer to this question.
And these various church Synods are always in agreement with one another?

Unfortunately, too many Orthodox do the very thing you accuse Catholics of doing. They do not want to, or have enough integrity to attempt to understand what Catholicism states. They even turn against the one Patriarch who attempts to reach out to the Catholic Church. When I saw this, it was the beginning of a search which led me to realize Orthodoxy wasn’t what it claimed to be and the Catholic Church certainly wasn’t what the Orthodox claimed it to be.

Of course, people are free to disagree me.

We should call out those whose actions are duplicitous, should we not? The position of notable ecumenists in Orthodoxy is quite remarkably duplicitous, as they sell out the faith for nothing (notably by violating the canons and by producing scandalous joint statements with members of other religious systems which undermine the Orthodox witness to the truth) while professing some nominal orthodoxy so that the Church does not strike them down altogether, like a poisonous berry which entices people to their deaths with its alluring color.

The truth is that the kerygma of Christianity has nothing to do with being nice (which seems to be the starting point of ecumenism these days), instead having everything to do with manifesting the light of Christ through genuine Christian love, which includes the correction of those in error, those who have fallen into sin, and those in delusion. The Orthodox Christian who truly believes in what the fathers taught and who loves his fellow man does not say that other Christian belief systems are inherently salvific, just as true Christian love demands that we do not fail to reprove a brother who has fallen into soul-destroying sins. Likewise, we should treat ecumenists as those who when seeing their brethren sinning do not offer them correction, and we must warn the faithful of the dangers posed by such ecumenists who might otherwise present what is erroneous as what is true. This involves not turning against them or hating them, but merely opposing their falsehoods and praying that they will abandon ecumenism.

I don’t disagree that Orthodox are guilt as well-something I previously acknowledged at least twice. My post was written in response to a post that criticized the Orthodox, while not acknowledging the same fault among Catholics.
