Catholic/Orthodox question

I don’t know how widespread this is or what the general rule is on this, but an Eastern Orthodox priest told me that he allowed an Oriental Orthodox to receive.
I have some experience and some inside info on this.

yes, there is a lot of intercommunion going on, much with the knowledge and consent of the bishops (this is especially so in the patriarchate of Antioch). There is much official stuff going on this matter: the patriachates of Alexadria (EO and Copt) and Antioch (EO and Syriac, and maybe Mar Thoma) have agreements, signed by both hierarchies, that both Churches recognize the marriages of each other, and will perform only ONE marriage between EO and OO, and the Churches both commit to the spiritiual needs of such (semi-) mixed marriages. (in contrast, neither recognize a wedding in the Latin church, nor abdicate baptism of the children in the Latin church in a mixed marriage).

Basically, the attitude is that the schism isn’t going to be solved in one fell swoop at the official level. Brest showed that. So a number of steps at a number of levels are taking place.

So it appears that there is disagreement at an official level with what Hesychios has recommended with reference to intercommunion?

Not really, just a principaled ad hoc approach to the immediate problems as the details are worked out.

If we doubted the Copt Orthodoxy, we wouldn’t be sending him to the Coptic Church.

Btw, as I have posted elsewhere because of things (end of semester and grading/court date to get children out of abusive home) I’ll be posting less.
